A South Carolina man was arrested and charged with murdering a woman who went missing in September.
Daniel Peele, whose age was not available, was taken into custody on Dec. 9 and charged with murder, kidnapping, and obstructing justice. The arrest came days after human remains were found on Ruby Road near Hartsville, some 70 miles northeast of Columbia. The remains were identified as Cassidy “Shamra” Felkel, 49, who was last seen in the Hartsville area on Sept. 25 before she disappeared without a trace.
Felkel’s remains were found on Dec. 4, months after the last time she was seen alive. WPDE, a local ABC affiliate, reported that Felkel’s daughter Kasey Wolfe had received a tip to check the area on Ruby Road. She asked a friend to check the area, and that friend found human remains.
Police deputies responded to the area and recovered the remains. The coroner eventually identified the remains as Felkel and listed the manner of death as homicide, according to WBTW, a local CBS affiliate.
Peele’s relationship to Felkel was not made clear. The arrest warrant obtained by WBTW accused Peele of allegedly murdering Felkel by strangling her after they had an argument and then burying her body in a well.
Peele was denied bond by a judge and is scheduled to be arraigned on his murder charge on Jan. 22. He is currently being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
