A twisted TikTok prank, in which a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old from Texas followed elementary school students home from school and asked if they “wanted to be kidnapped,” has landed the two teens behind bars on charges of making terroristic threats, police say.

Kaine Villareal and Lane Burch, both of Kyle, were caught Wednesday following a 7-year-old and a 9-year-old as they walked home from Negley Elementary School that afternoon at around 3:20 p.m., according to the Kyle Police Department.

The pair approached the two kids and asked if they “wanted to be kidnapped” as part of a “prank” for social media, according to police.

“The children immediately contacted their parents, who notified the Kyle Police Department,” KPD said in a press release. “Upon arrival, the suspects told officers that they were repeating a TikTok prank.”

While their TikTok profiles appear to be private and locked, Villareal can be seen on X and sports websites as he was a baseball player, wrestler and runner in high school.

The duo’s arrest marks the third time in roughly a month that a TikTok prank has landed someone in hot water and charged.

“Smith filmed his face, the pesticide can, and the act of spraying,” the Mesa Police Department said in a press release. “He later posted the video online.”

Smith is facing a felony count of introducing poison and misdemeanor criminal damage, endangerment and theft charges for the incident.

Police in Port Author, Texas, say they believe a 25-year-old man put a 3-month-old in danger when he used the baby to wipe snow off a car as part of a stunt to go viral on TikTok.

After observing the video online, the Port Arthur Police Department and Child Protective Services started investigating the incident, according to local ABC and NBC affiliate KBMT. Police told the station they were looking to obtain an arrest warrant for child endangerment through the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

“They are looking for clicks,” Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso told KMBT.

A Florida man and woman are behind bars after they allegedly attacked a man who wanted to have sex while tied up on the beach.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, a “frantic” man flagged down a Volusia County Sheriff’s deputy around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Ocean Shore Boulevard in Ormond by the Sea. He was bleeding heavily throughout his body. The man told a deputy he had been jumped by a man and woman on the beach.

More from Law&Crime: Corrections officer mom allegedly chucks acid at teen son, girl after argument over phone

He said he and a woman, later identified as 18-year-old Alana Cagle, agreed to come to the beach where she would tie him up and then have sex, the affidavit said. Cagle picked him up at his home and they drove to Bicentennial Park where they parked the car and walked to the beach, he stated. When they got to the beach he started to feel “odd vibes” from Cagle because she was sitting about 5 feet away from him. Nonetheless, she took out a yellow rope that she brought with her and began to tie him up.

It was at this point that the victim saw another man approaching them, the affidavit said. He tried to untie himself but Cagle jumped on top of his legs. He was able to fight her off and began to run away. But the other man, later identified as 24-year-old Wayne Streeter, tracked him down and tackled him. Streeter allegedly began choking him while Cagle punched him in the face. Per deputies, Cagle then pulled out a hatchet and began hitting him with it all over his body.

The victim was able to fight off both of the suspects and ran to get help, according to authorities. He described Cagle’s vehicle and deputies pulled her over nearby with Streeter inside, they said. There allegedly was also a backpack that the victim had left behind. Deputies tried speaking with Cagle but she requested a lawyer, they said. Post Miranda, Streeter told detectives that he and Cagle are boyfriend-girlfriend. Streeter said that Cagle picked him up and they drove to the beach. He then claimed he saw a man he did not know push Cagle down on the beach and he went to save her. Streeter said there were no weapons used but he admitted to choking the victim, the affidavit stated.

Deputies went to the beach where they found blood and the yellow rope used to tie up the victim. He suffered several lacerations and “multiple long cuts” to his abdomen. Paramedics took him to the hospital where doctors treated his injuries.

Cops arrested Cagle and Streeter on aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges. Both have since posted a $5,000 bond. They have court dates scheduled for Nov. 26.

Nicholas Wayne Hamlett (Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee).

In a case with several layers of alleged deception, Tennessee authorities say a man called 911 claiming to be a hiker who fell off a cliff while running from a bear. But Monroe County investigators said that while they did find a dead body, this was not the real caller.

The caller was actually Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, 45, they said. He is now wanted for first-degree murder out of Monroe County.

The suspect, who is known for allegedly using various aliases, also has a criminal history. He was sentenced in 2012 to 20 years in prison after being charged with holding a man at gunpoint, trying to hit him with a baseball bat, and attempting to bury him alive, according to AL.com. In that case, he used the alias Joshua Jones at one point.

Now he’s on the lam, authorities say.

More Law&Crime coverage: Florida woman paid ex-boyfriend $1,000 to help murder her grandparents, cops say

Authorities say that on Oct. 18, at approximately 11:34 a.m., Monroe County’s E-911 got a call transferred from their Polk County counterparts regarding a “distressed hiker” who claimed to be a man by the name of Brandon Andrade.

“He advised the dispatcher that he had fallen off a cliff while running from a bear,” they wrote. “The distressed caller claimed that he was injured and partially in the water.”

The call pinged in the area of Charles Hall Bridge on the Cherahola Skyway in Tellico Plains. First responders showed up, searched the area, and indeed found a dead man with the identification of Brandon Kristopher Andrade on his body.

But when law enforcement dug deeper, they learned he was not Andrade, and that in fact the ID had been stolen and used multiple times elsewhere.

They claim that Hamlett had been using the ID and was wanted out of Alabama on a parole violation.

“Mr. Hamlett had used a false name when speaking with law enforcement in Knox County, TN after the distressed hiker call,” they wrote. “Before his real identity had been verified, Mr. Hamlett is believed to have fled from his Tennessee residence.”

Investigators don’t know the victim’s identity, and they are working on figuring it out. For now, they’re calling him John Doe and plan on releasing a sketch in their efforts to learn the truth behind who he is and what happened to him.

Monroe County deputies describe Hamlett as standing 5 feet, 7 inches, weighing 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

They consider him armed and dangerous. If you see him, call 911 or Monroe County Dispatch at 423-442-4357.

Investigators ask that anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office at 423-442-3911.

A district court misinterpreted the law when it ruled that an adult adoptee can’t obtain her 1978 adoption records to provide her doctors with information about health predispositions, the Utah Supreme Court has ruled.

At issue is whether adoptee Marianne Tyson had shown “good cause” to obtain the records as required by Utah law, which seals adoption records for 100 years.

A district court had ruled that Tyson didn’t satisfy the “good cause” standard because the health and genetic information that she sought was not related to a specific medical condition.

The district court reasoned that giving Tyson access to the records would undermine the law’s privacy protections for birth parents.

The Utah Supreme Court ruled that the district court erred by trying “to breathe a more specific meaning into the phrase ‘good cause.’ Although it is understandable that the court would want more guidance than the statute provides, it interpreted the statute in a fashion that rewrote the law.”

“Stated differently,” the Utah Supreme Court said in its Feb. 22 decision, “if the legislature had wanted to impose a requirement that a petitioner point to something more than wanting to know her medical history, it could have put that in the statute. It did not, and it was error for the court to do so.”

The district court had determined that Tyson’s reasons for obtaining the records did not outweigh her birth mother’s interest in privacy.

“But instead of balancing both interests” as required by a Utah procedural rule, the district court “focused solely on the birth mother’s privacy interests,” the Utah Supreme Court said.

The state supreme court said it was returning the case to the trial court to conduct a balancing “that gives weight to both the birth mother’s privacy interests and Tyson’s reasons for wanting to see her adoption records.”

Tatum Hatch appears in a booking photo from January 2024. (Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office)

A now-former Louisiana high school teacher carried on an improper relationship with a student for a year and a half, authorities say.

Tatum Hatch, 32, stands accused of one count of computer-initiated solicitation of a minor, according to Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office jail records reviewed by Law&Crime.

The woman allegedly wanted to be the “first” person the child had sex with — at one point fretting the boy would have sex with someone else, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.

On Dec. 15, 2023, the alleged victim told his father about the illicit relationship, the affidavit alleges. The boy allegedly told his father the two had been involved since well before he was 15 years old.

To bolster his story about the much older woman in his life, the boy then showed his father a series of Instagram messages allegedly between himself and the then-West Monroe High School teacher “that supported his son’s claims,” the affidavit alleges.

Content warning: descriptions of child sexual abuse.

In a screen-recorded message thread that was viewed by a sheriff’s deputy, Hatch and the 15-year-old boy discuss various details about potentially having sex, according to the affidavit.

“Later in the message thread, Hatch describes to the victim that he will come in through her bedroom window,” the affidavit reads. “She then asks him if he will be rough or gentle with her. The victim responds by asking her what she wants. Hatch then replies that she doesn’t know, but she has thought about it.”

In one exchange, the unlawful alleged couple share their fears, according to the affidavit. The boy appears to express a general fear. Still a teacher at this point, the woman allegedly expresses her fear that someone else will take the child’s virginity.

Conversations between the boy and Hatch allegedly took place over several months, the affidavit says.

In one message, Hatch allegedly told the boy that she would not get in “as much trouble” if he came to visit her — as opposed to her visiting him. But she allegedly went to his residence once anyway.

In a particularly disturbing incident disclosed on the direct messages, the pair discuss how the defendant touched the boy’s genitalia during a late-night meeting at the end of his driveway — while Hatch’s infant was in the back seat of her nearby car, the affidavit alleges.

During her own Mirandized interview, Hatch allegedly admitted to talking to the boy on Instagram — but said she “was worried that if she admitted to certain questions about what she had sent the victim that she would lose her children,” according to the affidavit.

The now-ex-teacher allegedly admitted to giving the boy between $500-600 but she said it was because “she was afraid of the victim because of a rumor she had heard about him,” the affidavit says.

According to the sheriff’s office, a forensic download of the 15-year-old’s phone turned up a nude photo of the defendant, which aligned with what the boy had earlier told law enforcement.

Hatch was placed on administrative leave on Dec. 15, the school told El Dorado, Arkansas-based NBC affiliate KTVE — which serves the Monroe region of Louisiana. Hatch resigned on Dec. 26, 2023.

The defendant was arrested on a warrant on Jan. 3, the sheriff’s office told Law&Crime. The defendant was detained in the Ouachita Parish jail and released the next day after posting $10,000 bond.

She appeared in court on Friday.
