A mother in Florida is accused of terrorizing her son and a 65-year-old man who took the pair into his home to let them live with various forms of torture and abuse, like making her child “sit in a squatted position for hours on end” and striking the man with random objects, including a knife and “sharpening tool” on one occasion, cops say.

“She is f—ing strong,” the man allegedly told investigators after being questioned about the abuse, according to Miami ABC affiliate WPLG.

Jasmine Jean-Baptiste, 31, is accused of beating and pummeling the sexagenarian so badly that police say he is now blind in one eye. She allegedly “exploit(ed) his compassion and concern for her children,” according to the Miami Shores Police Department, and tortured her son behind closed doors in the process.

“A witness reported observing a significant and consistent pattern of abuse, including multiple instances of battery on various occasions,” the police report states, per WPLG. “The victim further provided photographs from various incidents, which depicted bruising, contusions and facial lacerations consistent with his account of abuse.”

According to police, Jean-Baptiste allowed a man who is described as her 13-year-old son’s stepfather abuse the boy for years before the two of them wound up living on the street in a car. She was taken in by the 65-year-old victim nine years ago when her son was just a toddler, and she was allowed to live with him up until her arrest.

Police say Jean-Baptiste began abusing her son in the same ways his stepfather did when they lived together, including forcing him to do squats “for hours” when he was “bad in school” and refusing to “give him water” during the punishment sessions.

More from Law&Crime: ‘Intent on killing’: Son planted bomb under retired reserve deputy father’s car, shot him to death, cops say

A recent incident at the boy’s school, in which a coach heard her say “I am going to kill him” after an unspecified incident, led to an investigation by the Florida Department of Children and Families. The 65-year-old man told police he was “scared” of Jean-Baptiste and unable to defend himself.

“She will jump on me,” he allegedly told detectives, recalling an alleged incident in which Jean-Baptiste “sucker-punched” him and left him blind in one eye and another incident that saw her knock out one of his teeth, according to cops.

“I can’t hit her,” the man said. “You know, a male would be blamed for hitting a female.”

Jean-Baptiste’s son told authorities she was known to slap and hit him repeatedly with belt buckles and her hands, allegedly leaving a scar on one occasion.

“I’d rather you worry about the kids,” the 65-year-old told cops while being questioned.

Jean-Baptiste is facing charges of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm and aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult. She’s being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

One of the seven people accused of torturing and killing a missing man in New York for months — simply because “they enjoyed it,” according to prosecutors — is also facing coercion charges for allegedly forcing two children, ages 7 and 12, to take part in hurting and treating the victim “like a dog,” officials say.

“To have two children have to participate in the beating of another human being, it’s deeply disturbing,” Ontario County Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford said at a press conference Wednesday. “It has, I can speak for myself and everyone involved in this investigation, been one of the most troubling parts of this. It’s heartbreaking.”

According to prosecutors and police, Minnesota resident Sam Nordquist was lured by his online girlfriend Precious Arzuaga to the Empire State in September and taken captive at a hotel in Ontario County by Arzuaga and six others in December. The group physically and sexually assaulted Nordquist; prevented him from eating food and hyrdrating; forced him to eat feces and drink urine; and other grotesque forms of torture, according to prosecutors.

“They forced him to obey their commands, treating him like a dog,” Wolford said Wednesday. “We have a seven-year-old and a 12-year-old who are also victims. They may have been forced to participate, but their lives are forever changed by what they saw and endured there.”

Nordquist was allegedly tortured for months starting in December, but authorities are choosing to focus on a time frame between Jan. 1 and Feb. 2, which is when Nordquist succumbed to the abuse and died. Wolford on Wednesday said evidence shows that “all seven people tortured (Nordquist) and they did so because they enjoyed it.” Arzuga is charged with coercion for allegedly forcing the 7-year-old and a 12-year-old to take part.

Last month, officials said Nordquist had last stayed at Patty’s Lodge motel in Canandaigua before his death, which is where he “endured prolonged physical and psychological abuse” at the group’s hands.

Citing a felony complaint, local ABC and The CW affiliate WHAM reported that the suspects allegedly sexually assaulted Nordquist with a table leg and broomsticks and beat him with sticks, dog toys, ropes and belts until he died. They allegedly dumped his body in a field in Benton afterward, where authorities found it.

“In my 20-year law enforcement career, this is one of the most horrific crimes I have ever investigated,” New York State Police Captain Kelly Swift told WHAM.

“The facts and the circumstances of this crime are beyond depraved,” said Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts.

More from Law&Crime: ‘Dragged her back’: Boyfriend hurled girlfriend into I-95 traffic, pulled her back into road to die after she ‘crawled’ away to escape, cops say

The death of Nordquist, who was a transgender man from Oakdale, Minnesota, was originally investigated as a hate crime by the New York State Division of Human Rights Hate and Bias Prevention Unit. But prosecutors say they have declined to pursue hate crime charges on account of some of Nordquist’s torturers also being members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“This case is bigger than a hate crime,” Wolford told reporters. “A hate crime would make this case about Sam’s gender or about Sam’s race and it’s so much bigger. Sam deserves to have this story told in its entirety.”

The six others who have been charged in connection to Nordquist’s death have been identified as Emily Jean Motyka, Jennifer A. Quijano, Kyle R. Sage, Patrick A. Goodwin, Kimberly L. Sochia and Thomas G. Eaves. They have all been charged with first-degree murder for taking Nordquist’s life in an “especially cruel manner with the intent to inflict torture on him before his death,” according to Wolford, who says all seven defendants know each other.

“We’ll never know the answer to why because what kind of human being could do this,” Wolford concluded. “We will never make sense of this case.”

An Ohio judge sentenced a father to prison for spending nearly two decades abusing and torturing his seven children, including forcing his then 14-year-old son to eat dog food and sleep in a shed.

Jason Fuller, 44, pleaded guilty to seven counts of endangering children, the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release. Delaware County Common Pleas Judge James P. Schuck sentenced Fuller to 17.5 years in prison on Monday.

“Jason Fuller’s sentence is almost one year in prison for every year he terrorized his family. We are extremely thankful these victims will be protected from him while he serves his prison sentence,” Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Schiffel said in a statement.

More from Law&Crime: Man ‘angry about a couch cushion’ beat 12-year-old for nearly 30 minutes, taunting him to ‘suck d—‘ while hitting him over 50 times: Cops

Fuller’s wife, Kristelle Fuller, was sentenced to two years probation after she pleaded guilty to obstructing justice for telling her kids to lie to investigators to protect their father.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Columbus Fox affiliate WTTE, the investigation began in September 2023 when the county’s Family Services received a complaint about child abuse after someone overheard one of the sons say he was locked in a shed and fed dog food when he was 14. Officers from the Delaware Police Department went to the home and interviewed Kristelle Fuller and the son in question. The son at first denied making the comment but then said he remembered an incident that happened about six years prior in which he was “punished for doing something inappropriate in front of his sister and was grounded to the shed for a couple of nights.”

The victim said the unattached shed was in the backyard and it occurred around August. He said he was allowed back in the house in the daytime. Investigators then spoke with the victim without his mother present. An investigator asked him if there was any audio or surveillance video within the home and he said he had a device “right now that he was supposed to be recording me with,” the affidavit said. The victim said he was not recording at the time and the investigator told him he was free to do so as the officer also was filming with his body-worn camera, the affidavit said.

Detectives asked Kristelle Fuller if she remembered the incident and she said “Sure.” She then said she was instructed by her attorney not to speak with them.

Further investigation revealed the abuse was not just contained to one son, but all seven kids. That led to a 13-count indictment against Jason and Kristelle Fuller in April. The father was accused of administering “corporal punishment” and physically restraining children in a “cruel manner or for a prolonged period” that “created a substantial risk of serious physical harm.” He also “tortured and cruelly abused” the kids. Kristelle Fuller also faced charges of permitting child abuse, child endangerment and witness intimidation but those were dropped as part of her plea agreement.

Columbus CBS affiliate WBNS reported Jason Fuller beat the kids with a belt, physically restrained the children and forced them into extreme exercises which caused one of the kids to lose consciousness. Neighbors noticed something was amiss.

“She would have them out here running, P.E. because she homeschooled them and there were times the little ones were out here with no shoes on and it was sad,” neighbor Ellie Eldredge told the outlet. “My first year here I made them scarves because they were outside in the winter with no coats and, as a mom, it was just sad and they were always asking for food, it was sad.”

The kids also were known to complete work normally reserved for adults. But the extreme abuse was “well hidden” from view, according to a neighbor.

“Now the kids did a lot of work. They were telling me when they ripped the drywall out of the basement the kids did it, and they wanted to use everybody’s trash cans for it. Now the kids said they also took turns being in charge of the meals and they did all the cooking and all the cleaning and I thought, that is a lot more than my kids did,” neighbor Anita Shively said in an interview with the TV station.

Top inset: Benjamin Cotton. Bottom inset: Christina Cotton (Goodhue County Jail). Background: Home where the Cottons tortured their young children (KSTP).

A mother and father in Minnesota are headed to prison for the next four years for locking their kids in makeshift cages at night, insisting to cops that they did so for “safety” reasons.

Benjamin Cotton 42, and Christina Cotton, 40, pleaded guilty to child torture, court records show. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed the 15 other charges they were facing including torture, neglect and malicious punishment of a child, reported Twin Cities ABC affiliate KSTP. According to a probable cause statement, the Goodhue County Health and Human Services received a report in August 2022 concerning the well-being of four children, ages 9, 7, 5 and 2. Christina Cotton had been behaving erratically and had a history of mental illness, cops said. The report also said at least one of the children had been locked in a cage, the affidavit said.

More from Law&Crime: Dad who tortured his 4-year-old daughter into a ‘vegetative state,’ told girl’s mother that she fainted during a ‘time-out’ learns his fate

A social worker and investigator from the Red Wing Police Department went to the home the day after receiving the report. Christina Cotton answered the door and invited them inside. She said the three younger children were in their bedrooms while the older child was downstairs. When cops asked if any of the children were locked in cages, Christina Cotton became upset and told them the kids were “locked up for their safety,” the affidavit said.

Investigators went to a bedroom and saw a 2-year-old locked in a playpen with what appeared to be a dog cage strapped on top so the child could not get out. The child wore a soiled diaper which was duct taped around his body, police said. Next to the playpen was a bunk bed “designed for very small children” that had wooded planks around the exterior that kept the kids locked up. The 7- and 5-year-old were inside, along with a mattress, blankets and a “puke bowl,” according to cops. They could not stand up, police noted. There was also a wooden door that had a sliding metal lock.

The mother said she locked up the kids around 8:30 p.m. the night before, meaning they had been contained in the cages for about 13 hours. The 9-year-old was found downstairs and not locked up. But the child had “excessive bruising” that covered the back and buttocks, police said.

According to the affidavit, the 7-year-old told cops he had his hands taped behind his back with duct tape as a form of punishment. He also said that he has to do daily chores like cleaning rugs and the couch and picking up toys. When he doesn’t do them, he said his father hits him with a belt “hard” and his mother “hits him really, really hard.” Further examination of the other three kids also showed bruising on their hips, buttocks and legs.

“The treating doctor opined that all of the bruising documented on the children was consistent with being forcibly stuck with an object such as a belt,” cops wrote.

Per police, the social worker told Christina Cotton that it was unacceptable to lock up her children in that manner. But she said “you don’t understand” and insisted the cages were to prevent her kids from “dying,” police said. She said one time one of the kids escaped and grabbed a kitchen knife. The mother also expressed concern that the children may get into household chemicals. Christina Cotton said if they weren’t caged they would “end up dead” and it would be the “fault” of the police department and Health and Human Services.

In an interview with investigators, the 9-year-old girl said she was concerned that she would get in trouble by talking to them, saying her parents told her that disciplinary issues stayed within the home. She said her parents told her that people who cause trouble end up in jail as adults.

“She explained that if an older person ends up in jail that they are given limited food quantity, limited food choices, and live in a cage,” the affidavit said.

Further investigation revealed that the parents had been caging their kids at night for at least four years. A licensed psychologist determined the children suffered “severe abuse” and may suffer developmental issues as a result. HHS took custody of the children.

A couple in California is accused of abusing, torturing and murdering their adopted son, with the 10-year-old being rushed to a hospital “in medical distress” before dying several hours later, according to cops.

Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, have been arrested on felony murder and torture charges, including one count of willfully causing or permitting harm to a child, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. The couple was booked on Friday, Nov. 22, following an investigation by the department’s Central Homicide Unit and Special Victims Unit.

On Nov. 21, deputies responded to a call of a 10-year-old boy “in medical distress” at a home in the 13000 block of Malibu Court, Moreno Valley, per an RCSO press release. Authorities found the child and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was stabilized.

“Several hours later, the juvenile’s health declined, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” the sheriff’s office said. “Based on the circumstances, the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested to respond and assumed the investigation.”

The circumstances, according to cops, included visible signs of neglect and abuse documented by SVU and the sheriff office’s Central Homicide Unit. It’s unclear how the couple tortured the boy.

“Through the joint investigation … the juvenile’s adopted parents, identified as 51-year-old Alejandra Marin and 59-year-old Juan Sanchez Moreno … were arrested for murder, torture, and child abuse,” the sheriff’s office said.

The couple was being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on Sunday without bail, according to jail records. Marin is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, while Moreno’s case records have not been made public yet.

Benjamin Wilkins was sentenced to 75 years in prison for beating and shooting Jacqueline Goodwin to death in Anchorage, Alaska. (KTUU)

A man hit a woman over 100 times, shot her in the stomach, bound her with zip ties, gagged her and taped a plastic bag around her head before covering her body with a sleeping bag. He then put the body it the car and crashed into a pole.

Cops in Alaska made the grisly discovery in 2016 and charged Benjamin Wilkins with murder. On Wednesday, a judge sentenced Wilkins, now 43, to 75 years behind bars.

Anchorage police on June 27, 2016, responded to the traffic crash in the 2800 block of Debarr Road near Alaska Regional Hospital. Cops quickly realized Wilkins was impaired. As they were waiting for the tow truck, they saw what appeared to be a passenger under a sleeping bag and found the body of 30-year-old Jacqueline Goodwin. She had plier marks and bruises throughout her body and her teeth were broken, the Juneau Empire reported at the time. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was from asphyxiation, blunt force trauma and gunshot wound to her stomach, the outlet reported.

According to the Anchorage Daily News, prosecutors said medical examiners estimated Wilkins had hit Goodwin over 100 times.

Cops found more startling revelations when they searched Wilkins’ house. They found more than 30 pounds of drugs including meth, heroin and Xanax, and $125,000 in cash. Wilkins’ brother Connor Stefano reportedly helped Wilkins load the body into the car. Stefano and their mother Jacqueline Stefano later pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution.

Superior Court Judge Andrew Peterson said during the sentencing hearing the case is noteworthy to him because “the level of cruelty is unimaginable,” the Daily News reported.

Prosecutors originally charged Wilkins with first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. He faced 99 years in prison. But in November Wilkins pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a sentence of up to 75 years in prison. He also didn’t have to testify against family members.

It’s not clear how Wilkins and Goodwin knew each other and prosecutors never established a motive for the murder.

His attorney, Assistant Public Defender Chong Yim, told the court that Wilkins’ family members could have murdered Goodwin. But the judge didn’t buy it.

“There’s simply nothing for me to look at here, or to even weigh in Mr. Wilkins’ favor,” Peterson said, according to local NBC affiliate KTUU.

Even hardened cops were stunned by the gruesomeness of the crime. Officer Joshua Vance, a 12-year veteran of Anchorage police, was the among the first on scene and said the case has taken more of an impact than any other.

“I don’t think, in my career, I’ve ever seen anything this bad,” Vance testified, according to KTUU. “I didn’t know how to react because it was something you just aren’t ready to see.”

Wilkins previously served eight years in federal prison for pointing a gun at police in 2003. Prosecutors said he started selling drugs following his release from prison and the end of his parole.

At Goodwin’s funeral, her family described her as a happy child with a contagious laugh, KTUU reported. But her demeanor changed after the death of her mother when she was 13. She then detached and turned to a life of drugs up into her death. She also was diagnosed with schizophrenia, family said. Her sister also died. Her family hopes she’s in a better place.

“She’s with her sister and her mom and she’s not hurting, she’s not alone, she’s not suffering, her health is better,” her aunt Cora Rexford said. “That’s the part we feel relieved about.”

Anigar Monsee (Upper Darby Police Department)

A 28-year-old woman in Pennsylvania was arrested this week for allegedly posting a series of videos to her social media channel in which she slowly and sadistically tortured animals such as chickens, rabbits, frogs, and birds. Anigar Monsee was taken into custody on Friday and charged with four counts of aggravated animal cruelty, court records obtained by Law&Crime show.

According to a probable cause affidavit, authorities were tipped off about videos that had been posted to YouTube by PETA headquarters documenting a “scantily-clad woman torturing rabbits, chickens, frogs, and pigeons by slowly disemboweling and otherwise mutilating the animals while still alive.” The document states that Monsee was also “severing the struggling and screaming animals’ necks with a dull knife over the course of several minutes.”

One video, titled “Cooking Lucky,” allegedly posted to Monsee’s account showed her alongside a live chicken that was in her sink. Before harming the animal, Monsee allegedly commented about the number of viewers and likes that her livestreaming video was getting and “solicited more before she harmed the animal.”

“For roughly the next 10 minutes, the actor aggressively handled the clearly terrified animal, plucked feathers from the bird’s neck, and hacked repeatedly at the struggling bird’s throat with knives while the animal attempted to escape,” the affidavit states. “The actor then climbed on the counter, pinned the bird down in the sink with her feet, before sawing at the bird’s neck in a slow back and forth motion. She continued carving at the bird’s neck for more than two minutes, until the screen went black.”

Another video from September 2023 allegedly showed Monsee carving open a frog that was still alive as she “slowly pulled out the frog’s organs.” She also commented that the frog was “still alive” and joked that he was “dancing.” She then did the same to two other frogs while singing the song “Happy Death Day” to the tune of “Happy Birthday,” police said.

Another video allegedly showed Monsee stroking a pigeon with a knife, then plucking all of the bird’s feathers out while it was still alive. She then ran the bird’s head “under scalding hot water” before “slowly sawing” its head off with a “dull knife.”

Yet another video allegedly showed Monsee — again using a “dull knife” to torture a rabbit to death. The video lasted for more than 30 minutes, police said.

Police were able to identify Monsee’s address based on the videos she posted online. Detectives responded to the home on Jan. 19 and she answered the door holding a toddler, per the affidavit. Monsee allegedly told the detectives that she was the individual in the videos torturing animals, at least one of which took place in the residence they were in at that time.

Monsee was arraigned and a judge set her bond at $200,000. She is currently being held at the Delaware County Prison and is scheduled to appear in court again for her preliminary hearing on Feb. 5.

“It’s just barbaric. It’s inhumane that someone could do that,” Upper Darby Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said in a statement to the Delco Times. “She’s going to answer to all four of the incidents. Detectives looked into it and charged her. Hopefully it will send a message that this is cruelty.”

Monsee’s YouTube channel had more than 20,000 subscribers before it was shut down, police said.

He added, “Even more disturbing, is that there are people out there that are entertained by this and there’s a platform out there that is allowing it.”

Laura Catherine Tisdelle (Macomb County Sheriff’s Office)

A 41-year-old woman in Michigan is facing a possible life sentence for allegedly torturing her boyfriend’s elderly mother while he was on vacation with his children, tying the 80-year-old woman to the bed and “severely” beating her until she was eventually found unresponsive in a pool of her own waste.

Judge Kimberly Wiegand on Wednesday ordered Laura Catherine Tisdelle to be bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court to stand trial on one count each of torture, first-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult, unlawful imprisonment, and third-degree domestic violence, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Under Michigan state law, a person convicted of torture faces a maximum sentence of life in a state correctional facility. On the remaining charges, Tisdelle faces an additional 35 years behind bars.

According to a press release from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Tisdelle’s boyfriend on June 21, 2023, returned home from a five-day trip with his kids and discovered his mother “with her hands tied together, restrained to the bed, severely beaten and laying in her own urine and feces.”

The Macomb Daily reported that Tisdelle used yellow twine to bind the elderly woman’s hands to her bed.

“The defendant’s boyfriend left his mother in her care and when he came home from his trip, the defendant was intoxicated and he found his mother non-responsive,” Wiegand said, per The Macomb Daily.

The victim was rushed to a hospital where she was admitted and placed into the intensive care unit in critical condition, prosecutors said. During the boyfriend’s trip, authorities claim that Tisdelle was the only person charged with caring for his mother.

“The torture and abuse allegedly inflicted upon a defenseless, elderly woman is a grim testament to the darkest corners of our society,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement following Tisdelle’s arrest. “It is my solemn duty to prosecute these heinous acts. We will ensure that the victim’s voice is heard, her pain acknowledged, and her perpetrator held accountable.”

Tisdelle was arraigned in June and held on $200,000 bond. She has been in detention since her initial arrest. Wiegand also ordered her to undergo substance abuse and mental health evaluations.

Tisdelle was scheduled to appear in Macomb County District Court in front of Wiegand again on Wednesday for a preliminary examination in the case, but she waived the hearing resulting in her case being bound over to the circuit court for trial.

In June, Lucido spoke to Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK about the circumstances of Tisdelle’s alleged actions.

“It is something so shocking to anyone who has an aged loved one. How could someone aged and vulnerable be (subjected) to having this happen to them,” he said to the station, adding, “I really feel for this woman (and) her son. I am appalled.”

The Macomb Daily reported that Tisdelle in 2015 and 2019 was charged with domestic violence, but those charges were eventually dismissed.

Tisdelle is scheduled to make her first appearance in circuit court on the afternoon of Jan. 8, records show.
