A patient at a Kentucky hospital became so enraged at the discharge process taking too long that she allegedly choked a nurse.

Mykeisha Johnson, 35, was a patient on the third floor at the University of Louisville Hospital and was set to be discharged on Saturday when she was allegedly getting annoyed with how long the process was taking. When a nurse who happened to be making her rounds at the time walked past her room, Johnson pounced.

More from Law&Crime: ‘How does that happen’: Parents say newborn ‘nearly bled to death’ after hospital circumcision

According to a police report obtained by local Fox affiliate WDRB, surveillance video showed Johnson choke the nurse, slam her to the floor and repeatedly punch her in the face. Staff eventually pulled Johnson off the nurse.

Johnson reportedly said the nurse had nothing to do with her prolonged wait, but she was “the first person available.” The nurse went to the emergency room with pain in her neck, back of her head, leg, abdomen and shoulder. Though she never lost consciousness during the attack, she said she was “in shock and didn’t remember everything,” the affidavit reportedly said.

The hospital released the following statement to local media outlets:

“UofL Health does not tolerate any violence or abuse against its staff, patients, or visitors. LMPD has made an arrest and is handling the investigation. Our employee was treated and released.”

Instead of waiting to be discharged from the hospital, Johnson now has to post bond to be released from jail. She’s facing charges of assaulting a health care provider, wanton endangerment and menacing, per court records. As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained in the Jefferson County Jail.

A judge added the wanton charge during a hearing on Monday, WDRB reported.

Anthony Jesus Reyes-Enos, 22, is currently sitting in jail without bond for charges including felony domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, tampering with a 911 call, false imprisonment, and aggravated child abuse.

“According to the female victim, the couple had been arguing, and Reyes-Enos assaulted her over two days, including punching her in the stomach,” deputies wrote. “She managed to escape the residence to call for help.”

Reyes-Enos, however, then allegedly sent her pictures of her beaten toddlers.

“After she left, Reyes-Enos reportedly sent her numerous photos of her two children, aged 1 year and 2 years, showing various bruises and wounds, indicating that they had been beaten,” authorities said.

Deputies said they got reports of the abuse on Wednesday and arrived at the 300 block of 58th Avenue East in the city of Bradenton. They said they found the children suffering lacerations, bruising, and swelling. Paramedics took them and their mother to a hospital.

Reyes-Enos’ pretrial detention hearing is set for Friday at 8:30 a.m., and the arraignment is scheduled for May 9 at 9 a.m.

A grandmother in Georgia was allegedly killed by a stranger who followed her home and then choked her to death — crushing her neck with his knees and full body weight while she was lying on the ground, according to police and family members, who describe the murder as “horrific” and “mind-blowing.”

Hector David Sagastume Rivas, 21, is accused of murdering 52-year-old Camillia Williams sometime between 11 p.m. on March 12 and 1 a.m. on March 13, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Atlanta ABC affiliate WSB. Police in Cobb County say Sagastume Rivas strangled Williams and then dumped her body on the side of a road in a yard near her home in Marietta, where it was found last Thursday morning in a place that her family says left them shocked.

“When they found her in the bushes, we looked at the bushes real close and it just so happens to be a Camellia bush.” Camillia’s brother, Arsene Williams, told WSB. “It’s hard to believe that this is really truly happening,” he said. “I don’t know how to absorb it right now.”

According to Arsene and Williams’ family, the Louisiana native called a relative the night before her body was found and said she was being followed by a man who they claim was Sagastume Rivas.

“She didn’t know him,” said Tony Williams, another one of Camillia’s brothers. “The night before she was at the dollar store and she told one of my nieces the guy was following her,” Arsene alleged.

Cops say a motive has not been provided by the suspect yet, but he has admitted to allegedly killing Williams. He told investigators the details about using his knees, claiming he did so after trying to take her life with a chokehold, to no avail.

“I just can’t imagine what someone would have in their heart to do that to somebody,” Williams’ niece, Danielle Williams, told local NBC affiliate WXIA. “What he’d done was really horrific,” she said. “It’s mind-blowing.”

Sagastume Rivas was being held Wednesday on charges of felony murder. He’s been denied bond and is awaiting his next court date.

A young man in upstate New York is heading to prison for strangling a childhood friend of his at a private birthday party he threw for her at an Airbnb — complete with cake, new sneakers for gifts and miniature wine bottles with the words “I love you” written on them, according to police and prosecutors.

Video footage, which was first obtained by the local NBC affiliate WSTM, shows 21-year-old Jhon Chacaguasay-Ilbis — who was handed a sentence of 23 years to life in prison Monday — walking into a Syracuse Airbnb on June 18, 2024, with the victim Joselyn Toaquiza, 21, and then exiting with her lifeless body. The young man pleaded guilty to strangling Toaquiza with an unknown object before driving her to a local park and dumping her body in a shallow grave, according to Onondaga County prosecutors and Judge Ted Limpert, who condemned Chacaguasay-Ilbis for his “unimaginable” crimes at his sentencing, which was covered by Syracuse.com.

“This crime is really inexplicable,” Limpert said.

While Chacaguasay-Ilbis admitted to killing Toaquiza, who was found on June 22 in Syracuse’s Lincoln Park, he has never revealed a motive to anyone. Police and family members were also unable to identify one.

“The court is not aware of, nor is the family aware of, the reasons that this happened and it’s very disturbed by that and that’s something I’m sure the family is going to wrestle with for the rest of their lives,” Limpert said. “They can’t understand it, nor can I — nor can the people of this community — why you would take the life of such a young, beautiful woman and I’m sure that the pain, as we heard from the statements of the family, is unimaginable and that they will never be able to remove that pain from their lives.”

After arresting Chacaguasay-Ilbis, police revealed that he knew the young woman from earlier in their childhoods, but it’s unclear how they reconnected later in life. Prosecutors said Chacaguasay-Ilbis used Toaquiza’s credit cards to make purchases after her death, including an Onlyfans subscription, Syracuse.com reports. They alleged that he entered the United States from Ecuador illegally in 2022.

Toaquiza’s family issued a statement Monday through a Spanish interpreter, saying it would “never forgive” Chacaguasay-Ilbis for what he did.

“How can you live bearing the thought of having taken the life of an innocent person?” the family said. “How can you sleep at night knowing that you have caused so much pain and suffering?”

More from Law&Crime: ‘Burned into my brain’: Mom finds bodies of 9-month-old daughter and baby’s father after he shot the child and then himself in ‘senseless’ murder-suicide

Chacaguasay-Ilbis offered up a statement of his own and apologized for his actions, but he didn’t provide a reason for why he did what he did.

“I want to apologize to (Toaquiza’s) family, to my family and to my friends and mates for all the pain and suffering that I have caused,” Chacaguasay-Ilbis said. “I feel really bad and ashamed for this situation that I caused, for ignoring my principles and values. I understand and I respect your pain. I acknowledge the damage and I’m responsible for my actions. I regret everything and I wholeheartedly ask for your forgiveness. I wasn’t conscious about what I did.”

As part of Chacaguasay-Ilbis’ plea deal, he was reportedly promised a sentence of no worse than 25 years to life in prison. A GoFundMe created for Toaquiza last year describes her as a “beloved” friend and family member from Ecuador who was “tragically taken” in a “senseless act of violence.” The family used the funds from the online fundraiser to transport Toaquiza’s body back to her home country where she was “laid to rest with dignity among her ancestors and loved ones.”

Background: Waheed Foster (New York Post/YouTube). Inset: Elizabeth Gomes, the woman Foster attacked in a New York subway station after strangling his girlfriend, Jessica Miller, to death (WABC).

A New York man with a history of violence, including killing his grandmother when he was 14, will spend 18 years in prison for strangling his girlfriend to death.

Waheed Foster, 44, learned his fate in the death of Jessica Miller, 41, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced in a Friday press release. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and third-degree assault. The sentence will run consecutively to a 22-year sentence he received for an unprovoked attack that seriously wounded a commuter in Queens weeks after Miller’s body was discovered.

The events leading to Miller’s death happened on Aug. 4, 2022, when she visited the defendant at a mental health facility in the Bronx, prosecutors said. The defendant entered the building with Miller, signed in at the front desk, and went to his room. Later that evening, Foster left the building and never returned. An employee conducting a wellness check in Foster’s room two days later discovered Miller’s body.

Before a final determination of death was determined for Miller the following month, Foster was in custody in a case in Queens in which he punched and kicked commuter Elizabeth Gomes at the Howard Beach-JFK Airport subway station in the head in an unprovoked attack as she was on her way to work.

The attack left Gomes with severe injuries, including the loss of her right eye.

In a statement to the court at the sentencing for the subway attack, Gomes spoke about the trauma.

“Every time I look in the mirror, I always remember,” the statement said.

“I still feel afraid when I get on the train sometimes,” Gomes said in an interview with the New York Post.

Foster spoke out about the attack in a jailhouse interview with the New York Daily News.

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said it was a miracle Gomes survived.

“I wasn’t trying to kill her,” Foster said. “I was just trying to give a real good a– whooping … If I stomped her in the face, she’d be dead.”

At Foster’s sentencing in that attack, Queens Supreme Court Judge Ira Margulis said he shouldn’t have been out on the streets.

“He should have been in a mental hospital, a state hospital being treated there,” Margulis said, the New York Post reported. “Because he showed time after time when he was released and taken off his meds, he continued to commit crimes.”

Foster’s criminal history includes the murder of his 82-year-old foster grandmother in 1995 when he was 14, local ABC affiliate WABC reported. Years later, he stabbed his sister with a screwdriver, the outlet reported.

In 2010, he attacked workers at a psychiatric outpatient treatment center after having been diagnosed with schizophrenia, paranoid type, and anti-social personality disorder. On June 7, 2010, Foster walked into a third-floor office and stabbed one employee with a knife, then struck two others before fleeing the facility, according to court documents.

Left: Lee Gilley (Harris County Sheriff’s Office). Right: Christa Bauer Gilley (Facebook).

A software consultant, husband, and father of two claimed he woke up one week ago to find that his wife, 9 weeks pregnant, took her own life by overdosing on drugs even though she was neither suicidal nor a drug user and even though the evidence indicated the victim was strangled to death, Texas authorities allege.

Lee Mongerson Gilley, 38, remains behind bars without bond in Harris County in a capital murder of multiple persons case following his jail booking on Friday, Oct. 11, four days after the suspected strangulation slaying of 38-year-old Christa Bauer Gilley at her Allston St. home in Houston.

Court documents obtained by Law&Crime show that prosecutors claim to have “good reason to believe” Lee Gilley on Oct. 7 “intentionally and knowingly cause[d]” Christa’s death by “applying pressure to [her] neck and upper back, and intentionally and knowingly caus[ing] the death of unborn child” as a result.

Suspect Gilley is a self-employed software consultant for the last 13 years and Houston homeowner for the last seven years, according to court documents.

Court documents noting that the capital murder defendant was denied bond said Gilley told emergency responders he and his wife had an argument before he went to bed and that when he woke up three hours later she was unresponsive and apparently overdosed to take her own life.

More Law&Crime coverage: Elementary school principal and daughter of a longtime federal bankruptcy judge found strangled to death in bed

But after Christa died a hospital, both the “hospital physician” and the medical examiner determined that the victim, 9 weeks pregnant, had “injuries consistent with strangulation.”

“D[efendant] admitted wife not suicidal and not a drug user,” documents said. “[O]nly two small children he and wife home, had been arguing.”

Christa “went to bed and 3 hours later [Lee] found her in that condition called 911 started CPR,” according to the defendant’s alleged version of events.

The couple married at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, S.C., in 2017, nearly a decade after they first met at a dance class while seniors at Clemson University, their alma mater.

“After going on one date and then going their separate ways, the two reconnected 8 years later in Boston for their second date. Talk about meant to be!” said a post on Charleston Weddings Magazine. “Lee flew from San Diego to Houston 11 months later where he surprised Christa with a proposal.”

A candlelight vigil in Christa’s memory is reportedly scheduled for Tuesday night in the Greater Heights neighborhood.
