The firm grip of horror took hold of multiple Wyoming families after a mother shot her four daughters before turning the gun on herself.

Midafternoon on Monday, Tranyelle Harshman, 32, called 911 to report the gunshots she fired at her own home on East Shoshone Avenue in Byron — a tiny town located roughly 415 miles northwest of Cheyenne — and some 90 miles due south of Billings, Montana.

The woman went on to report that her daughters had been shot, according to a press release issued by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.

“When dispatchers asked the status of the gunshot victims the female stated that she believed them to be deceased,” the sheriff’s office said.

Harshman also gave dispatchers a macabre guide to the violence they would encounter inside the unassuming home.

“Two children would be located upstairs in their cribs and two children would be located downstairs in their shared bedroom,” the press release reads. “The caller further stated she could be found in her upstairs bedroom and that she was going to do the same to herself.”

Attempts were made to slow things down. Those efforts failed.

“The dispatcher pleaded with the female caller over the phone for the female caller to remain on the line until responding units arrived,” the press release goes on. “The female caller stated multiple times that she could not do that and that it was too late. Multiple attempts to keep her on the line failed and the call was disconnected.”

When deputies and local law enforcement arrived, two girls were already dead: a 2-year-old and her 9-year-old half-sister died from gunshot wounds to the head. Another 2-year-old and her 7-year-old half-sister had also been shot in the head but managed to cling to life.

The toddler who first survived, however, “succumbed a very short time later due to the extent of her injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooter was also “found to have signs of life” while suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. The mother and the 7-year-old were both swiftly transported to North Big Horn Hospital. The girl was later airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City where she is currently “fighting hard for her life,” according to family members.

Harshman herself died on Tuesday afternoon.

The family had lived in the house for about a year before tragedy struck, a next-door neighbor told Cowboy State Daily. The neighbor recalled seeing the girls playing outside — where they would sometimes pet his dogs. The murderess, the neighbor said, appeared to be a homemaker and did not evidence any signs of mental turmoil.

“I wish I had known something was going on. I could have done something about it,” the man told the newspaper through tears. “Terrible. F–––ing terrible.”

Now, two fathers and the killer’s surviving family are grieving and trying to make sense of the tragic turn of events.

One GoFundMe was started to help the biological father and stepmother of the two older girls — particularly with medical expenses as the 7-year-old recovers from surgery.

“Olivia has suffered severe traumatic brain injury,” the first fundraiser reads. “All prayers and whatever higher faith or power you believe in are appreciated for the family at this time. If she does pull through this, she and the family have a very long road ahead of them, a lot of unknown right now. This loss and hurt is unimaginable. Please rally around Quinn and Katelynn as they prepare to bury one daughter and beg and pray that the other survives this horrible tragic event.”

Other funds will go toward the 9-year-old girl’s funeral expenses and travel for her parents to attend.

A second GoFundMe was started to help the widower — the father of the two younger girls — with various costs.

“This devastating event has left Cliff and his loved ones reeling in grief, struggling to come to terms with the immense void left in their lives,” the second fundraiser reads. “The financial burden of funeral expenses, ongoing family support, and other related costs only adds to their pain.”

In response to a request from Law&Crime, the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office said incident reports about the triple murder-suicide “aren’t finalized yet.”

A Montana man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his wife and a bartender who he suspected were having an affair.

Kraig Walter Benson was sentenced to 140 years in prison on Friday for the deaths of his wife, Jenny Benson, 49, and bartender Logan Gardner, 43. He was found guilty in October 2024 of two counts of deliberate homicide.

Jenny Benson’s father told the killer directly that he hoped he leads a miserable life in prison, while the defendant’s daughter said she didn’t feel safe with her father in the world.

The defendant’s sister Kris Norton also spoke out, local NBC affiliate KECI reported.

“Kraig is not just my brother but someone I deeply admire,” she said. “His actions in this matter do not reflect who he is. It breaks my heart to see my nieces lose their mother to this tragedy. What breaks my heart even more is the anger that has divided our family and friends to live in anger is a life sentence.”

The defendant shot and killed his wife and Gardner at the Four Aces Bar in Superior, Montana, on Aug. 27, 2023.

An affidavit obtained by KECI outlining the case said surveillance video from the bar and a neighboring business captured it all.

The footage showed the Bensons at a table inside. At one point, Kraig Benson went outside, smoked a cigarette, grabbed a gun from his wife’s Chevrolet Tahoe, and returned to the bar.

At 9:19 p.m., the time-stamped video shows him returning to the table with his wife in the middle of the bar. He reaches into his waistband, pulls out the gun and shoots her in the head as patrons run for the doors. She falls from her bar stool onto the floor, and he extends the firearm over the bar toward the bartender and fires at the bartender as he retreats toward the front door.

Benson fires again at his wife once more as she lies on the floor and then fires at the bartender, shooting him three more times as he lies on the floor near the entrance.

The killer then sets the firearm on the bar and leaves in the Tahoe. He was quickly arrested after the Tahoe was seen with a flat tire driving erratically on a highway in Missoula County.

At his trial, he testified in his own defense.

“She told me that she was not going to go home with me, that she was going to go home with Logan,” Benson said during cross-examination, local affiliate KULR reported. “I went outside, and I’m pretty sure that’s why I went outside … and was going back into the bar and having the last conversation.”

At his sentencing, he apologized, KECI reported.

“To my friends and family, thank you for your support,” he said. “To my children, I love you more than life itself,” he said while crying on the stand.

“I, too, lost my best friend that night, my best friend and the love of my life,” the defendant went on.

Jenny Benson was remembered as a loving and caring mother. In her career, she owned a horse stable and ranch and worked as a self-employed commercial real estate appraiser.

“Jenny took great pride in raising her daughters, Paige Benson and Tailor Benson,” her obituary said. “She also had a special place in her heart for her dogs and horses.”

A joint GoFundMe page for the victims said Gardner could make friends with almost anyone.

“He greeted everyone he knew with his big warm smile or like some would say ‘s—-eating grin,” the page said. “He could make anyone’s day with his big-warm embrace and was always gentle and kind. A great listener and friend, he would do anything for almost anyone without question and help a friend whenever he could.”

Mia Desiree Harris (Butler County Sheriff’s Office).

Body camera footage from the Cincinnati suburb of Liberty Township obtained by Law&Crime shows the frantic moments as first responders worked to save an infant girl who had been shot in the head. They soon arrested the shooter — her own grandmother, Mia Desiree Harris.

Remarkably, the girl survived, though the injury had permanent consequences for her health. Defendant Harris recently pleaded guilty to a count of felonious assault. She is currently serving a sentence of nine to 12 years in prison and is eligible for parole in December 2032.

“During the incident Harris shot at several family members before intentionally shooting the child,” the Butler County Sheriff’s Office wrote in the news release.

Witnesses urgently told authorities about the badly injured baby and about Harris being the shooter.

“Mia Harris. Mia Harris,” a woman told law enforcement in footage dated Dec. 9, 2023. “Get her right now.”

A copy of the criminal complaint filed in Butler County Area 2 Court stated that Harris also “knowingly” caused “serious physical harm” to another victim, whose name is redacted, by “striking [that person] in the face with a fist.”

“Harris then broke down a locked bedroom door, after firing a handgun through the bedroom door multiple times,” the document stated.

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones did not mince words when previously discussing the case with WXIX.

“It wasn’t an accident. It was on purpose. This is one of the most disgusting, vile criminal acts I’ve ever seen, shooting a 6-month-old baby. What makes it even worse is this is the baby’s grandmother,” Jones told the station. “She went and shot this child and doesn’t appear to have any remorse whatsoever. I feel sorry for the baby, the family, everybody that’s dealing with this. The doctors, the life squad people, the deputies, everybody. This is as bad as it gets.”

Inset: Alexys Pinto (Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office). Background: The intersection where Pinto allegedly shot her boyfriend (Google Maps).

A Texas woman was recently released from jail after she allegedly lured her longtime boyfriend to a field and then shot him repeatedly.

Alexys Pinto, 23, stands accused of one count of aggravated assault over the incident that left Elvis Munoz, 24, with multiple gunshot wounds across his body — and a bullet in his back for months.

The shooting occurred on Sept. 5. The victim, in recovery, has been struggling to come up with a reason for the violence ever since.

Pinto was initially upset with her boyfriend, a mechanic, on the day in question after one of his clients showed up at their residence with a car for him to work on, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Houston Police Department. When Munoz explained the nature of his work, Pinto allegedly flew into a higher state of rage — trying to hit her boyfriend and managing to kick one of their dogs.

Munoz intercepted the attack by grabbing his girlfriend’s wrists and advising calm, authorities say. This entreaty was a too-brief salve, however, as Pinto allegedly demanded to know why Munoz touched her before shifting her outward state on a dime to ask him if he recalled a specific place they once enjoyed the sunset together.

Munoz did remember the place, a field, he would later tell law enforcement. Pinto allegedly insisted he take her there immediately.

At the requested intersection of State Highway 288 and Airport Boulevard, Munoz stopped the car, according to the court document. Then, Pinto got out and began to run away down a hill. As Munoz called to her, she allegedly called back: “Come here!”

So, he did. Then he caught up with her. Then it got weirder.

“Teach me about deer hunting,” the woman allegedly said — prompting a question from her boyfriend just before he was shot in the chest.

The complaint relays what allegedly happened next:

“Stupid ass n—-“, can be heard from the Defendant as, “She straight shot me”. The Complainant stated Defendant was said to have held the black gun, in a tilted manner. Complainant stated he was in a state of disbelief, then thought he had to run away. The Complainant stated the Defendant shot at him again, when he turned around to face the Defendant, he received another hit on his other hand, from the gun held by the Defendant. Complainant stated he held his chest and ran from the Defendant. Complainant stated he slips and falls, then looks up at the sky, waiting for the Defendant to shoot him again. Complainant stated as he laid on the ground, bleeding and in pain, he thinks in what he feels are his final moments, “Oh my God, it’s not my time, what did I do, what did I do?”

Next, Munoz says Pinto called someone on her phone to lie and say he shot her. The injured man then shouted that he did no such thing.

“Call an ambulance baby, call the ambulance,” Munoz implored Pinto.

To which she allegedly replied: “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do you like that, I didn’t shoot you in the right places!”

Confused again, Munoz was still prepared for the worst. He then held his hand over his face as it appeared likely Pinto was gunning for the right place. This time, while protecting his head, he was shot in the hand.

Then, Munoz screamed for an ambulance again.

“I didn’t mean to do you like this, it was supposed to be quick,” Pinto allegedly replied.

Eventually, with some cajoling, Pinto allegedly helped the wounded man back into his truck before taking him to a nearby Citgo gas station where strangers got Munoz the help he needed.

Pinto was arrested on Sept. 20, after an unrelated disturbance call turned up the existence of a warrant for aggravated assault.

Bail in the case was originally set at $75,000 but recently lowered to $10,000. The state initially requested $50,000 bail and then upped their request to $1 million.

On the same day, Munoz got the bullet out of his back, Pinto got out of jail, according to Houston-based ABC affiliate KTRK.

“All I did was ever love her,” Munoz somberly told the TV station.

Now, the victim says he fears for the safety of his friends and family.

“She’s a danger to the community, to children, to family and friends and to me as well,” he told KPRC. “She’s not just a danger to me or my friends because she knows where several of my friends stay at home, but most importantly, my family. I have little nieces. My sister and nephew, My mom and my dad.”

Law enforcement has not floated a motive for the violence.

Munoz is perplexed himself.

“I have no idea,” he continued. “I’ve always worked hard to care for her as best as I could. Sometimes I wouldn’t even eat just for her to have a good plate of food. She’ll be jealous, controlling, she would isolate me from family and friends. She holds grudges.”

On March 20, 2024, Brad Markey-Perez accidentally shot his friend in the face at this home in Orange City, Florida, while they were testing one another’s readiness to face danger, Florida cops say. (Mug: Volusia County Jail; Screenshot: Google Maps)

Two friends in Florida played a game in which they tested each other’s readiness to face real danger. As it turned out, the only threat was to themselves.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested 25-year-old Brad Markey-Perez after he allegedly shot his pal by mistake, authorities said. Deputies responded on March 20 to a shooting at a home in Orange City. They found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the jaw. Paramedics took him to the hospital.

Markey-Perez told deputies he and the victim like to have “drills” where they “practice with each other the importance of being vigilant of their surroundings, especially while armed with a firearm,” a probable cause arrest affidavit said.

“Both own firearms and they would have ‘drills’ where one would try and get the jump on the other as a form of training. These ‘drills’ are usually performed with unloaded firearms or using ‘cap’ style ammunition that is a nonfunctioning round,” the affidavit said.

He said the victim was walking out of a kitchen with something in his hand. Markey-Perez thought the victim was holding either a baton or a kitchen knife. Thinking it was a “drill,” Markey-Perez said he stood up from the couch, unholstered his gun and pointed it at the victim, the affidavit said. It went off.

The suspect said he thinks he accidentally let off the safety and pulled the trigger, according to the affidavit.

“Markey-Perez advised he usually only keeps a round in the chamber when he goes to sleep in the event of an intruder,” the affidavit said.

Three young children, ages 1, 2 and 7, live at the home. Two of them were in the room where the shooting occurred but were not injured, deputies said.

Detectives went to the hospital to interview the victim. He was adamant he did not want to press charges against his buddy and asked that deputies stop investigating the matter. But because there were children near the incident, detectives continued to investigate.

In a second interview with deputies, the victim said that Markey-Perez told him before the shooting in a joking manner, “Bro, I could assassinate you right now in the blink of an eye,” according to the affidavit.

Despite the victim not cooperating, deputies still decided to file child abuse charges against Markey-Perez because he “reasonably should have known the results of drawing a firearm around people, not knowing if it was loaded, and could reasonably expect to result in physical or mental injury to the children,” they wrote.

He’s facing two counts of child abuse and culpable negligence. He’s at the Volusia County Jail without bond.

An armed Walgreens employee shot a pregnant woman he suspected of stealing lipstick seven times in a parking lot confrontation last year that prompted an emergency cesarean section to deliver the baby and lifelong health problems, a new lawsuit says.

Travonsha L. Ferguson, 25, was shot on April 12, 2023, at the Walgreens store at 2500 Gallatin Road in Nashville.

It happened when the employee, who didn’t identify himself, aggressively confronted, cursed and screamed at Ferguson and her friend about the alleged stolen merchandise, and Ferguson sprayed the employee with mace “in fear of imminent bodily harm to Baby Ferguson and herself,” court documents obtained by HuffPost said.

The shooting prompted an emergency cesarean section to deliver the baby prematurely. The boy survived, but the now 11-month-old has a heart defect, and his mother requires the use of a colostomy bag, court documents said.

The employee who shot her was terminated. He was not charged with a crime after he claimed self-defense, saying he didn’t know if Ferguson and her friend were armed and he feared for his safety and didn’t know if they were armed, police said in a news release.

“I would believe the situation of self-defense if one shot, but it’s impossible to shoot seven times with such accuracy if you’ve been maced — which he was not,” said L. Chris Stewart, Ferguson’s attorney, in a news conference, local CBS affiliate WTVF reported. “We believe it was sprayed at him or in the air when they were surprised — as any pregnant mother would do who gets surprised by somebody running up on them screaming slurs.”

Police said the bloodshed happened when another employee notified the store team leader that two females were stealing items. The team leader told police he started recording the women on his cellphone when he saw them placing items into a cart and a large over-the-shoulder bag, then followed them outside when they left without paying for the merchandise, police said.

He told police he made his way to the rear of the car as the women loaded items into the trunk. He pulled his semi-automatic pistol and fired after one of the women sprayed him with mace, authorities said he told investigators.

After the shooting, the women drove off, and he called 911.

The woman who was with Ferguson dropped her off at a hospital and drove away, officials said.

Ferguson was charged with assault and theft of $1,000 or less, court records show. Her attorney would not comment on the charges, according to local ABC affiliate WKRN-TV.

But he said shoplifting accusation or not, following her to the parking lot and shooting was “negligent and against policy, provided the employee had been trained properly, and Walgreens must be held accountable,” local NBC affiliate WSMV reported.

“Ms Ferguson did nothing at all to deserve to be shot this many times. A witness even said it sounded like the full clip was emptied,” Stewart said, WTVF reported.

Shantanica Ferguson said her daughter did not deserve this.

“It’s been a long ride, and it’s not fair,” she said. “She deserves justice.”

Walgreens did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Law&Crime, but in a statement after the shooting, the company said, “The safety of our patients, customers and team members is our top priority, and violence of any kind will not be tolerated at our stores. We take this matter seriously and are cooperating with local authorities.”
