A Florida woman and a Florida sheriff’s office appear to be trading barbs in a viral social media battle over an outstanding warrant and investigative work efforts, respectively.

On Tuesday, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office uploaded a wanted poster on Facebook, requesting the public’s help for information on the whereabouts of Kwanteria “Panky” Alizeyh Richardson, 27.

The poster reads: “Kwanteria Richardson, AKA Alizeyh Richardson AKA Panky, has an outstanding warrant since December 2024 for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.”

That was just the beginning.

In quick succession, a Facebook user identified as Alizeyh Richardson shared the department’s post with a sarcastic caption reading: “Shidddd I ain’t hard to find…do ya job.”

Richardson’s post prompted dozens of additional Facebook users to also share the law enforcement wanted poster – but with an eye toward amusement instead of turning the wanted woman in.

A Facebook user identified as Alizeyh Richardson shares a sheriff’s office’s post with a sarcastic caption (Facebook).

After that, it was the sheriff’s office’s turn.

More Law&Crime coverage: Florida woman allegedly threatens to burn down day care unless foster parent returns her infant daughter

In a since-deleted Facebook post, the agency replied:

Eyyyy Alizeyh Richardson low key, you ate that!

Lucky for you, we are use to those who play “hard to get”.

Real talk, be our Valentine. Slide into our DM’s and we will pick you up in a custom green and white whip. We have jewelry that will fit your wrists perfectly and we have already reserved the best bed and breakfast in town

See you soon

A copy of the sheriff’s office’s emoji-interspersed reply was captured by Tampa Bay-based Fox affiliate WTVT before it was deleted.

The back-and-forth reportedly continued once more.

More Law&Crime coverage: ‘Stole a lighter and pushed her’: Florida woman arrested for allegedly shoplifting at Dollar General and shoving pregnant employee

The Facebook user, identified as Richardson, allegedly shot back, according to Mobile Alabama-based CBS affiliate WKRG.

In what looks to be the final public volley, Richardson allegedly contested the sheriff’s office’s characterization of her initial taunt – insisting that she “high key ate.”

The woman also reportedly said: “y’all mad, now come get me.”

As of this writing, there is not a female inmate with the last name of Richardson in the Alachua County jail.

More Law&Crime coverage: ‘My knee hurts’: Florida woman arrested after allegedly calling 911 over 30 times in a single year

Law&Crime reached out to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for additional details on this story but no response was immediately forthcoming at the time of publication.

Aftermath of Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy crashing on Nov. 6, 2024 (Lake County Sheriff’s Office).

A sheriff’s deputy who crashed on body camera lied by omission by initially hiding the fact that he was looking at porn at the time, says the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

“Gosh darn it,” he said on footage after the crash. “Yeah, that f—ing really sucked.”

The internal affairs report from the Office of Professional Standards determined that he lied, was looking at porn on his phone while driving the patrol vehicle, and also failed to wear his seat belt.

Law&Crime is not naming him because he has not been charged with a crime. The deputy resigned during the investigation, Cpl. Chanel Martin of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office told Law&Crime in an email.

The crash

His bodycam from the afternoon of Nov. 6, 2024, shows him with his phone out, though it is unclear what it has on. But what is clear is that the yellow air bag bursts out.

He indicated to at least one passerby he was OK. He walked over to another vehicle that apparently got caught up in the crash. Law&Crime is omitting this encounter because it shows the woman, but in it, the deputy is checking on her.

“Hello, ma’am,” the deputy tells the other driver in the video. “Are you OK? I’m so sorry.”

“It’s OK,” she said.

“My brakes locked up,” he said.

She said she was OK.

The internal affairs report

According to the internal affairs report, the deputy allegedly wrote that he ended a phone call when he saw a vehicle stopped in front of his because a school bus was stopped in the opposite lane with lights on.

On top of that, the light for his auto-brake system was on after he left speed calibrations at the IPS range, so his brakes locked up.

But a sergeant who reviewed video footage determined the deputy was looking at images on his phone when the crash happened.

The deputy allegedly described having finished a call with a colleague at the time of the crash.

More Law&Crime coverage: Deputy says she’s ‘such an idiot’ for causing head-on crash that killed 80-year-old man, injured driver’s 76-year-old wife, police say

“He went on to say that he was scrolling through text messages on his phone from a group text with his sector three colleagues just prior to the crash,” the report stated. “He stated he was not sending text messages when the crash occurred.”

But video did not show him scrolling through texts, authorities said. Instead, he was allegedly “viewing a picture or a video at the time of the crash,” the report stated. A supervisor later described there being no videos or pictures in the group chat.

The investigator also determined that the deputy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

In an interview on Nov. 20, 2024, the deputy admitted he was, in the report’s words, “looking at inappropriate pictures.” Asked to clarify what he meant, he allegedly “stated pornographic material like boobs or whatnot.”

He reiterated that his bakes did lock up, but he did not have the time to stop when he realized the vehicle was stopped in front of him.

He ultimately admitted “he knew he was looking at inappropriate pictures, which was the leading cause of the crash, and he deliberately left that information out of his report.  He stated that it is called lying by omission.  He further said he knows that one all too well.”

The first image conjured in your mind by the word “sheriff” might be the protagonist of a Wild West movie or Robin Hood’s foe, the sheriff of Nottingham. But unless you’re a resident of Alaska, Connecticut, Hawaii and Rhode Island, there’s likely an elected law enforcement official in your area who has that title.

In The Highest Law in the Land: How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy, lawyer and journalist Jessica Pishko takes a deep dive into the history of this position in American life and at a far-right movement hoping to co-opt the role of sheriff to advance extreme conservative policies.

There are about 3,000 sheriffs in the United States, one per county (or county equivalent). In this episode of The Modern Law Library podcast, Pishko and the ABA Journal’s Lee Rawles discuss how the rural/urban divide impacts the demographics of sheriffs. Ninety-seven percent of the land area in the United States is considered rural, but only 20% of the people live in those rural areas.

In the 2020 census, Greene County, Alabama, had 7,730 residents and one sheriff. Cook County, Illinois, which contains the city of Chicago, had 5,275,541 residents and one sheriff. This leads to a larger proportion of sheriffs representing a rural and more conservative demographic, Pishko says.

Pishko explains the “constitutional sheriffs” movement, including its similarities to other fringe movements like the sovereign citizens. Adherents claim that sheriffs alone have the power to interpret how the Constitution and the first 10 Amendments should be enforced in their counties. They claim that state governments, the federal government, the president and the U.S. Supreme Court have no power over sheriffs, and that as elected officials, sheriffs are answerable only to their constituents.

In this episode, Pishko also describes the large role that sheriffs have in incarcerations, how their enforcement powers differ or overlap with police, and what disciplinary or oversight measures are available when a sheriff abuses their office. Pishko and Rawles also discuss the roles that sheriffs might have in local elections and whether they might have an impact on the 2024 presidential election.
