Killer returned to scene after murdering brother: Cops

The man charged with killing his attorney brother allegedly returned to the crime scene with family, and cops arrested him in front of a media outlet.

Christopher Eaves, 49, is currently held on a $1.5 million bond, and if he manages to get out of custody pending trial, he cannot communicate with his own and his brother’s family, according to AZ Family.

Police in Phoenix, Arizona, claim that he carried out the shooting Friday, according to Fox affiliate KSAZ. Surveillance footage from next door recorded gunshots.

“The defendant went over to the victim’s house early yesterday morning and shot the victim, fired multiple shots,” prosecutors reportedly said. “He returned to his house with his parents, and Phoenix Police found multiple loaded weapons in the defendant’s car.”

Officers arrived to find the victim, James “Artie” Eaves, 51, dead.

The outlet’s cameras were there when defendant Eaves arrived at the cops and arrested him.

Authorities have yet to convey an alleged motive.

James Eaves was a respected lawyer, working for Sanders and Parks Attorneys at Law.

“Artie was a close friend, amazing attorney and colorful raconteur; his death leaves a hole in all of our hearts,” firm president Robin Burgess said in a statement obtained by Fox 10 reporter Lindsey Ragas. “Our thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.”

As part of his career, James Eaves also represented the county, working for the transition team for former Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel in 2019, according to AZ Family.

“Artie Eaves was a dear friend and colleague to so many of us at the Maricopa County Atty’s Office,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement released Friday. “Today’s tragedy has not yet sunk in but one thing is for certain: Artie will be deeply missed. I am praying for his entire family and would ask others to do the same.”

Suspect described murder scene as a ‘blood bath’: Police

More than two years after a Rhode Island woman went missing, her remains were found and the man suspected of her murder was finally arrested.

Mark Perkins, 64, was taken into custody on Wednesday after his vehicle’s GPS data was connected to the location of 44-year-old Charlotte Lester’s skeletal remains, which were found on Nov. 17 and identified through dental records. According to the Warwick Police Department, Perkins had been on their radar from the beginning but they lacked the evidence needed to make an arrest.

Court documents obtained by Providence NBC affiliate WJAR detailed police evidence of Perkins’ activity in the days following Lester’s disappearance around May 16, 2022, when her landlord reported her missing. The documents reportedly described a witness from a convenience store who saw that Perkins allegedly had “blood on his hands and scratches and bite marks on his arm.”

Perkins allegedly told the witness that he and Lester, with whom he had a relationship, “had the blowout of the century” and described his house as “a blood bath.” He also told the witness, “I think I killed her,” the witness reported back to police.

Perkins was interviewed by police days later, on May 20. They reportedly noted that his hands were swollen but that he seemed to be “calm and unaffected” by Lester’s disappearance. He allegedly told the police that “she had stopped texting him and he did not know where she was,” CBS affiliate WPRI reported.

Warwick police then reportedly searched Perkins’ house and wrote in their report that they witnessed blood splatters on walls, the ceiling, door, and bedframe, and an apparently bloodstained shirt hanging on a clothesline in the basement over a bottle of bleach. Testing later reportedly showed the blood matched Perkins and likely Lester based on it matching the DNA profile of Lester’s mother.

The court documents also stated that Perkins followed Lester as she drove to another man’s house on May 16, 2022, the last day anyone saw her alive. Text messages from that night reportedly show Perkins writing Lester, asking her to return home from the other man’s house. On May 18, the day after he was allegedly seen bloodied and scratched up at the convenience store, Perkins was reportedly seen on video leaving his home in his truck with an object in the back and when he returned three hours later it was no longer there.

It was not until the discovery of Lester’s skull that investigators made the connection they needed. When police began looking at the GPS tracking data on Perkins’ truck, it allegedly showed he went to the area where the skull was found four times in four months — twice in July 2022 and twice in October 2022. In one of those trips, Lester’s remains were allegedly within 1,000 feet of the area where Perkins stopped his truck, according to GPS data.

Perkins was arrested in August 2022 for a completely unrelated case when he allegedly threatened a local radio personality with his lawn mower after being confronted about Lester’s disappearance.

Perkins was arraigned at Kent County District Court where he was formally charged with first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea and is being held without bail.

Accused killer allegedly lingered at crime scene to chat

A man accused of shooting and killing a woman in Tennessee earlier this week allegedly lingered around the scene of the crime until well after police arrived, according to one witness.

Paul S. Park, 29, stands accused of one count of criminal homicide, according to Davidson County Sheriff’s Office records.

The defendant is alleged to have killed Alyssa Lokits, 34, on Monday evening while she was working out at the Mill Creek Greenway — a multi-purpose urban trail in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville.

Afterward, the alleged killer is believed to have feigned ignorance about the shooting during a brief chat with another woman nearby.

Shannon Howard said she twice took note of the tragic scene through the trees on the day in question. Once, after the victim appeared to have taken a hard fall on the trail — but looked as if she were being helped up by a man. The second time was when several members of law enforcement, emergency lights still flashing, had arrived, the witness told Nashville-based CBS affiliate WTVF.

So, Howard said, she changed her course and started to walk back home. Then a man pulled up alongside her in a dark car. She removed her new Sony headphones as he started talking to her.

“He rolled his window down and leaned out and said: ‘Hey,’ — you know, kind of with a smile — ‘Do you know what happened?”” she told the TV station. “And I said, ‘I think somebody may have hurt themselves. They may have fallen. I’m not sure.’ And he said: ‘Oh, well, that’s a lot of police.’ I said: ‘Yeah, I’m just going to go home.’ And I put my headphones back on.”

Lotkis was found in an overgrown area of the trail with a lone gunshot wound to the head, police said. One police officer at the scene used their hand to try and apply pressure — also offering the salve of one last conversation, trying to tell the woman everything would be alright.

But, of course, it wasn’t.

The victim was rushed to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she eventually succumbed to her wound.

The victim’s obituary remembers her fondly:

Affectionately known to her family as “Lu,” Alyssa was the best of us. Volumes could not adequately describe the woman she was. She deeply loved her family and friends. Always poised, graceful, and beautiful, she was everyone’s champion. An avid traveler, she spoke several languages, and loved to take on new challenges ranging from home renovation, to art, and any topic she set her mind to. In short, she was someone with limitless capability and potential. Alyssa never missed an opportunity to celebrate someone else’s accomplishments. She was a light and inspiration. We are all less without her, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sexual assault may have been the motive.

Witnesses told investigators they first heard a woman yelling: “Help! He’s trying to rape me,” and then the tell-tale noise of gunfire.

Park was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses described the woman’s killer as driving off in a dark, four-door sedan, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Another person whose car was parked at the greenway turned over their dashboard camera to law enforcement. That footage allegedly contained high-quality video of the suspect and his car, according to Nashville Police Chief John Drake. Yet another witness gave investigators a partial license plate number from the fleeing car.

Next, investigators obtained a photograph of the suspect himself, according to police. Then, a homicide detective recognized Park as the twin brother in a suicide case from 2021. Park was arrested as he left his house in the affluent Nashville suburb of Brentwood.

Footage of the suspect being removed from a patrol car and led inside a police station — wearing a red shirt, a dark hoodie, and black sunglasses — was shared by the department on social media.

That’s when Howard made the connection.

“When I saw his picture of them bringing him out and him with his sunglasses on, I dropped my phone,” she told WTVF. “And I was like: ‘That’s him. That’s him.’ That’s the gentleman that was pulled up next to me.”
