A patient at a Kentucky hospital became so enraged at the discharge process taking too long that she allegedly choked a nurse.

Mykeisha Johnson, 35, was a patient on the third floor at the University of Louisville Hospital and was set to be discharged on Saturday when she was allegedly getting annoyed with how long the process was taking. When a nurse who happened to be making her rounds at the time walked past her room, Johnson pounced.

More from Law&Crime: ‘How does that happen’: Parents say newborn ‘nearly bled to death’ after hospital circumcision

According to a police report obtained by local Fox affiliate WDRB, surveillance video showed Johnson choke the nurse, slam her to the floor and repeatedly punch her in the face. Staff eventually pulled Johnson off the nurse.

Johnson reportedly said the nurse had nothing to do with her prolonged wait, but she was “the first person available.” The nurse went to the emergency room with pain in her neck, back of her head, leg, abdomen and shoulder. Though she never lost consciousness during the attack, she said she was “in shock and didn’t remember everything,” the affidavit reportedly said.

The hospital released the following statement to local media outlets:

“UofL Health does not tolerate any violence or abuse against its staff, patients, or visitors. LMPD has made an arrest and is handling the investigation. Our employee was treated and released.”

Instead of waiting to be discharged from the hospital, Johnson now has to post bond to be released from jail. She’s facing charges of assaulting a health care provider, wanton endangerment and menacing, per court records. As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained in the Jefferson County Jail.

A judge added the wanton charge during a hearing on Monday, WDRB reported.

A Florida nurse likely will be blind for the rest of her life after a patient allegedly attacked her unprovoked.

Deputies from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office wrote an arrest affidavit that the patient, later identified as 33-year-old Stephen Eric Scantlebury, had been admitted to HCA Florida Palms West Hospital under the Baker Act, which allows people to be involuntarily detained and examined for mental health issues, and was receiving treatment. Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday the nurse walked into Scantlebury’s third-floor room. Witnesses said the suspect inexplicably “jumped on top of his bed, and then jumped onto and attacked the victim,” according to the affidavit.

More from Law&Crime: Man killed his dad, hid body under blue tarp in yard telling worried son it ‘was trash’ before fleeing to Walmart

Scantlebury allegedly stood over the victim and repeatedly punched her in the face. A witness yelled for him to stop and he ran out of the room. He fled down the hallway and into the stairwell where he went down to the first floor and escaped from the hospital. The suspect, shirtless and still wearing patches from an EKG monitor, reportedly sprinted across the parking lot and into traffic on Southern Boulevard. Video obtained by local TV stations showed deputies pointing what appeared to be either Tasers or stun guns at Scantlebury and ordering him onto the ground in the middle of the road. He surrendered and deputies took him into custody.

The nurse was transported via helicopter to another hospital where she was last listed in critical condition. Doctors said “essentially every bone in the victim’s face is broken and the victim is likely to lose the use of both eyes.”

According to cops, Scantlebury had been “acting paranoid” for the last few days and “blaming people in his life for events they had nothing to do with.” That led to authorities to take him into custody under the Baker Act.

In a statement, HCA Florida Healthcare said the attack “happened within a matter of seconds.”

“Our primary concern is with our beloved colleague and we are praying for her recovery. We are also providing support to our hospital staff who are understandably shaken by this incident,” the hospital said.

Willa Fuller, executive director of the Florida Nurses Association, also released a statement expressing concern about the safety of nurses as attacks happen across the country.

“With concern about a longstanding nursing shortage, there needs to be substantive action by ALL stakeholders to prevent this kind of egregious action. We would like to see direct care nurses included in any initiatives related to violence against healthcare workers,” she said.

Scantlebury stands accused of attempted murder and is receiving treatment at a hospital. His next court date is scheduled for Tuesday.

A Georgia man allegedly high on crack was found naked in a stroke patient’s room at an Atlanta hospital in a case of attempted sexual assault of a sleeping patient.

Shamon Pearce, 24, faces charges of aggravated assault, battery and misdemeanor sexual battery in the attack of the 47-year-old woman, online jail booking records show.

The incident happened on Sept. 27 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, police said. Nurses initially spotted Pearce smoking from a crack pipe in an elevator before he entered the room of a patient recovering from a stroke, reported Michael Seiden, with Atlanta’s ABC affiliate WSB, citing the police incident report.

The victim woke up as the suspect was trying to put a sheet over her head, the report said the woman told police. When she asked what he was doing, he became aggressive, climbed onto her and told her to be quiet and not move, the report said she told police, the outlet reported.

“She then realized what he was doing,” according to the report. “She began moving and telling him to get off her and they both fell off the bed. She tried to scream for someone to help.”

Hospital staff found the suspect naked and the patient on the floor of the room, the report said.

A nurse took images on her phone and called for other nurses to help, the document said.

The nurses tried to lock Pearce in the room to prevent him from escaping, but he overpowered them, ran down the hall naked and went down a set of stairs, the news station reported.

Pearce allegedly hid in a basement trash can for an hour before finding a used hospital gown, putting it on and walking out of the facility. He was arrested nearby, allegedly initially telling officers he had been discharged from the hospital hours earlier, according to the incident report.

He later allegedly confessed, telling police, “he got on the bed with her and rolled over on her, he was high and smoking drugs and he was just trying something new,” the report said.

In a statement, the hospital said, “The safety of our patients, staff, and visitors is our top priority.”

The hospital outlined additional security steps, including increasing security staff throughout the hospital, locking inpatient units and requiring badges to access the area. Hospital officials also said visitors must contact the nurse’s station to enter any unit.

“A robust visitor management system will be installed,” the statement said. “This system will ensure we can account for every person inside the hospital. We will be implementing an alert system that equips staff with wearable mobile panic buttons for emergency situations.”

Pearce was being held at the Fulton County Jail with bail set at $10,000, online records show.

A nurse at a hospital in Riverside, California, was arrested after a patient accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was unconscious.

The victim told detectives with the Riverside Police Department’s Sexual Assault-Child Abuse (SACA) unit that she had been admitted to the Kaiser Permanente Hospital in mid-January and had received treatment for several days.

She said a male nurse sexually assaulted her when she was unconscious. Detectives identified the suspect as 27-year-old Jacob Daniel Hartman. Cops arrested him on Wednesday on on sexual assault charges, including sexual battery of an unconscious person, police said Friday in a press release. They took him to the Robert Presley Detention Center where he has since posted a $55,000 bond. Further details about the case were not released.

“Given the nature of these crimes, SACA Detectives believe there may be other victims who have not come forward yet,” the Riverside Police Department said.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact Det. Daniel Suarez at [email protected] or (951) 353-7120.

The hospital released the following statement.

“At Kaiser Permanente, safe and high-quality care are always our top priorities,” the statement said. “As soon as we learned of this serious accusation, we immediately cooperated with law enforcement and started an internal investigation. At this time, the individual is no longer employed by Kaiser Permanente.”
