A Republican candidate for a Kentucky state representative seat has been arrested after he was allegedly caught on a Walmart surveillance camera putting his hands on the neck of a 17-year-old boy who nearly hit his son with a ball in a store aisle.

Brian Ormes, 53, faces charges of first-degree strangulation, menacing and assault in the fourth degree, online jail records show.

The Monday night incident allegedly started after the teen played with a ball in a store aisle that nearly hit Ormes’ son. Surveillance footage allegedly caught Ormes following the teen, getting in his face, chest to chest, before pushing him against a shelf and placing his hands on his neck, reported the Lexington Herald-Leader, citing a police report.

The paper said police wrote the teen had “clear and visible red marks and a scratch on the back of his neck.”

Ormes allegedly admitted to putting hands on the teen, saying he was upset about the ball almost hitting his son, Cincinnati ABC affiliate WCPO reported.

Ormes was booked into the Kenton County Detention Center and released on $2,500 bond, records show. He was ordered not to contact the alleged victim and stay out of all Walmarts, the Herald-Leader reported.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Ormes had not responded to a phone call or Facebook message request for comment.

Ormes is running for an open seat in Kentucky District 67 in Campbell County in northern Kentucky.

His challenger, fellow Republican Terry Hatton, said he should drop out of the race.

“First off, my heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to the victim and their family,” he posted on Facebook. “I stand by my statement, Brian Ormes NEEDS to drop out of this race, as house district 67 deserves someone who will not put the youths safety at risk in our community. After his actions last night, it is obvious that he has some personal issues that MUST be addressed, before he is able to serve the public.”

Campbell County Republican chairman Dave Slater said in a statement to WCPO that the party firmly supports Ormes’ and “every American citizen’s Constitutional right to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.”

WCPO reported Campbell County Democratic Party Chair Melissa Whalen called the incident “sad.”

“I don’t know how we devolved to this point,” she said. “Obviously, none of us are perfect, but there’s a bottom line you should be able to cross.”

Ormes is an electrician by trade, according to his Facebook page. His former company, Boss Construction, was dissolved for damaging a retaining wall gas pipeline in 2020, according to the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

Ormes is set to appear in court on April 16, online court records show.

Florida man wearing underwear on neck found prowling: Cops

Cops found a Florida man wearing a pair of underwear around his neck prowling near where two bonsai trees worth $7,000 were stolen days earlier, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A resident in the 2000 block of Everest Parkway in Cape Coral called 911 around 10 p.m. on Jan. 11 to say they saw someone hiding behind a chair in their backyard near their dock on the Caloosahatchee River. He was wearing a gray hoodie, black shorts and a dark mask. When cops arrived they found him lying on his stomach between a tall hedge and thick brush near the sea wall.

The man was wearing the gray hoodie and black shorts the neighbors described, the press release said. He also had on a pair of dark navy blue underwear around his neck that he apparently was using as a face mask, according to cops.

The man was identified as 35-year-old Troy Dean Stuart. He told cops he was exercising in the area because of “its aesthetics and to avoid cars on the road.” He claimed the underwear around his neck was to protect his face from the cold.

Neighbors told the cops they saw Stuart in their backyards and yelled at him to get off their property. Another neighbor said they reported someone stole two bonsai trees worth $7,000 on Jan. 6. Stuart was allegedly seen on camera walking toward more bonsai trees the day he was arrested.

Cops found several of the same type of plants at Stuart’s home but they were not the ones stolen, the press release stated. They also weren’t able to see in the backyard due to a very tall fence. Stuart claimed he didn’t steal any plants. Deputies arrested Stuart on a loitering and prowling charge and took him to the Lee County Jail. Stuart has since posted a $150 bond.

Man fatally stabbed mother in neck after Christmas: Deputies

Authorities claim a man fatally stabbed his mother in the neck after she planned to take him to a mental health facility for his concerning behavior.

The victim, Jennifer Crumrine, 54, had initially survived her injuries but died at a hospital, documents state. As of Sunday afternoon, records in Charlotte County, Florida, show that the defendant, Connor Crumrine, 23, is only charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of resisting an officer without violence. Deputies said Friday that they are working with prosecutors to update charges to reflect the stabbing death.

Cops say the defendant attacked his mother while his elder sister called authorities and the other sister tackled him to stop the stabbing, according to the probable cause affidavit viewed by Law&Crime.

Citing interviews with the survivors, deputies describe a sequence of events going back to Monday night.

“Last night, Connor began making statements to the family trying to teach them how to get into a fetal position and making statements about heaven and hell,” investigators wrote. “During this time Connor would also make a finger gun gesture towards them. Due to a fear that Connor may cause harm to them during the night the rest of the family kept their bedroom doors locked.”

Connor, who is the youngest of the siblings, had allegedly told the younger sister to, in the affidavit’s words, “sleep face down tonight so that he can take her to heaven and keep her from going to hell.”

Fearful he might hurt them, the rest of the family slept in shifts, deputies said.

The situation escalated Tuesday morning. They had planned to go on a cruise that day. The mother decided to miss it in order to arrange for Crumrine to stay at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care for mental health care.

She told him her plans, and he procrastinated getting ready, documents said. The mother asked the older sister to call the facility. While this sister was on the phone, she heard her mother scream, “he’s
stabbing me, he’s stabbing me.”

She found her brother stabbing their mother, documents said. The elder sister tried to disarm him, but this caused a minor laceration to her finger. The younger sister woke up to the sound of her mother calling for help, documents stated. She tackled Connor and wrestled with him over the knife, authorities wrote. The older sister worked on trying to save their mother’s life.

Deputies arrived to find Connor struggling with the younger sister, who sustained a stab wound in the upper back, documents said.

“Connor still had the knife in his possession but was not actively using it at the time,” they wrote. “Connor was given multiple commands, which he ignored, and was ultimately tased, continued to be non compliant with law enforcement orders, and had to be physically removed from the bedroom, and detained on scene.”

First responders took Jennifer Crumrine to Fawcett Memorial Hospital, where she eventually died from her injuries, documents stated.

The defendant allegedly declined to speak post-Miranda and asked for an attorney. The court scheduled an arraignment for Jan. 29, records show.

Man shot woman in neck after she refused him sex: Deputies

A man is accused of shooting his girlfriend and her adult daughter, even as the women tried to escape.

Shaun Dougherty, 60, faces two counts of attempted murder in Martin County, Florida.

Authorities said that the defendant was “highly intoxicated” Thursday night when he arrived at his home, located in a gated community off Greenwood Way in Palm City, according to a sheriff’s office press statement and a report from West Palm Beach NBC affiliate WPTV.

Dougherty allegedly started arguing with his girlfriend over their relationship. She rejected him after he demanded sex, detectives reportedly said.

At some point, Dougherty allegedly shot her in the neck, and then, when she tried to run, in her leg.

The woman’s adult daughter, who was at the home, ran out of her bedroom after hearing the shots, but Dougherty shot her as she tried to run, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Both women made it outside to a neighbors and called 911,” deputies said. “MCSO SWAT Team was called out and surrounded the home, forcing Dougherty out. He was taken into custody. Both victims were transported to the hospital and are expected to recover.”

William Wagner, a neighbor, described hearing “foul loud bangs,” according to WPTV. Believing this to be fireworks at first, he looked out his window.

“Then I started hearing people yelling in agony,” Wagner said. “Then I heard them yell, ‘Call the cops.’”

Another neighbor, Les Frost, reportedly described getting a knock on the door seconds after the shooting. It was Dougherty’s girlfriend.

“We heard the banging on the door,” Frost said. “I answered the door, and the woman was there. She was all covered in blood, and she said she was shot.”

He called 911 and worried that she might not survive.

The adult daughter told WPTV that her mother survived gunshots to the chest, neck, and arm. The daughter was shot in the arm.

Deputies said the women are expected to make a full recovery.
