Police in Florida arrested a 29-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in her car in Miami.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said in a press release it began investigating shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday when the grandmother of a 3-year-old flagged a deputy down in the area of Southwest 144th Street and Southwest 134th Avenue. The girl had been walking alone in the residential complex. She had what appeared to be dried blood on her face and clothing, cops said.

Deputies went to the girl’s home in search of her mother but she wasn’t there. During a search of the area, cops found the mother’s vehicle and found her unresponsive with apparent stab wounds. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman, later identified as 24-year-old Maria Camila Garcia-Molina, dead.

Through “investigative means,” cops arrested 29-year-old Joy Chandra Nath on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse.

Local NBC affiliate WTVJ obtained an arrest report that further detailed the incident. It said deputies found Garcia-Molina’s body covered in blankets in the passenger seat of her car. She suffered from stab wounds on her neck, torso and other extremities. Deputies reportedly believe the girl was with her mother at the time of the murder. The girl told deputies that her mother was hit in the head and was sleeping, according to the affidavit. It did not appear the girl suffered any physical injuries in the incident.

A Florida cop who was shot by another police officer as she wrestled a man carrying a metallic lighter mistaken for a gun is suing the city that employs him.

Officer Fabio Bolanos filed a notice of intent to bring a lawsuit against the City of Miami Beach after he was unintentionally shot by Officer Shenaqua Stringer when he was helping her subdue the man thought to be armed, local ABC affiliate WSVN reported. Bolanos is suing for “injuries suffered by him arising from the shooting” and “injuries sustained as a result of the negligent actions of the city,” the document obtained by WSVN says.

Bolanos says he has suffered “scarring, physical injury, emotional distress and mental anguish.” His attorney PJ Mitchell told the TV station the city failed to properly train its officers and “exercise reasonable and ordinary care.” A city spokeswoman declined to provide the document to Law&Crime, citing a public records exemption.

“The City of Miami Beach does not comment on pending or threatened litigation,” she added.

Mitchell did not immediately return a request for comment.

As previously reported, Law&Crime obtained police body camera footage from the incident as well as the report from the State Attorney’s Office that cleared Stringer of criminal wrongdoing.

According to the report, the police department received a 911 call shortly before 12:30 p.m. on March 2 about a man walking on the Venetian Causeway who may be armed with a gun.

Stringer was the first officer on scene and saw the man walking. She reportedly saw him “reaching into his right pocket and retrieve an unknown object,” the report said. Stringer took out her gun and approached the man. Meanwhile, Officer Fabio Bolanos drove up in his patrol car from the opposite direction. He ran up to Stringer and the man as she was taking him to the ground while holding her gun in her right hand. Bolanos started to help Stringer gain control of the man. Suddenly the gun went off, hitting Bolanos in the right calf.

The injured officer is in obvious pain as Stringer calls for help.

“Why’d you do that?” the subject at the center of the call says as he’s lying face-first on the ground. “Ain’t nobody do nothing. You f—ed up his leg. He’s bleeding a lot.”

Blood pools around the man.

“Hey,” he shouts. “Blood is dripping on me.”

Bolanos continues to moan in agony as he and Stringer try to put him in handcuffs.

“Hurry up because I need a tourniquet,” Bolanos said.

“I know,” Stringer responds. “Hold on.”

Eventually, help arrives and a cop puts the tourniquet around Bolanos’ leg to slow the bleeding. Officers pick up Bolanos and place him in the back of the cruiser. During the ride to the hospital, Bolanos asks the officer driving if he can borrow his phone so he can call his wife.

“I got shot in the leg,” Bolanos tells his wife. “I’m OK though, they’re taking me to Ryder Trauma right now. I’m OK, though. All right, babe? I love you.”

Bolanos arrived at the hospital where he underwent treatment. Back at the scene, cops did not find any gun linked to the suspect, only a metallic lighter. The man was apparently going through a mental health crisis and never faced charges associated with the incident.

WSVN, which first obtained the body camera video, reports that Bolanos made a full recovery and is back on the job.

As for Stringer, the Miami Herald reported in March that she was transferred to a different part of the agency after the incident. An internal affairs investigation is ongoing.

A Florida judge on Monday was primed to sentence a 55-year-old man to 20 years in prison for allegedly shooting his ex-fiancee eight times as she lay on the couch. But then the judge heard the alleged victim’s testimony.

Bridget Knighton spoke of the “countless assaults” before the shooting, a courtroom report from Miami ABC affiliate WPLG stated. How the suspect, Gayle Blount, allegedly prevented her from answering the door when the cops would arrive during prior domestic violence incidents, threatening to blow her “brains out” if she “even uttered a sound.” The time he slammed her on a table full of dishes and food at Denny’s. All the times he ignored the restraining order, showing up at her apartment several times leading up to the shooting.

“Those restraining orders are just a piece of paper,” Knighton reportedly said. “They don’t stop a bullet.”

In May 2021, Knighton was on her couch in her Miami Gardens apartment when Blount allegedly grabbed a gun from a car, barged into the home and shot her eight times. He reportedly told her “Look what you made me do.”

As a result, Knighton has had to undergo some 11 surgeries and suffers from other health problems. She also must walk with a cane.

Blount has sat in a Miami-Dade County jail cell for nearly four years. Last month Blount and prosecutors came to a plea deal where he would plead guilty to attempted murder in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence. But Knighton reportedly testified that she felt the punishment was not stiff enough for all the terror he allegedly put her through.

A 17-year-old Florida girl is behind bars after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death just days before Christmas while they were allegedly “horseplaying” with a knife in a parking garage.

Court records show Jahara Malik is facing a charge of manslaughter with a deadly weapon in the Dec. 20 death of 17-year-old Yahkeim Lollar in Miami. She’s at the Miami-Dade County jail on a $50,000 bond. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local ABC affiliate WPLG, Miami police responded to a report of a stabbing in the parking garage at Lollar’s apartment complex in the 6100 block of Northwest Sixth Court. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital where he died.

Per the affidavit, Malik was set to go shopping with a friend on the day in question. Before she left, she was looking for the pepper spray she typically used for protection but could not find it so she grabbed a knife instead, the affidavit reportedly said. After shopping she went to meet with Lollar in the parking garage. The two were “horseplaying” and she somehow ended up stabbing him in the chest.

Surveillance video allegedly shows Malik dropping the knife in the parking garage. A portion of Malik’s statement to police was reportedly redacted from the affidavit. A medical examiner deemed the death a homicide a few weeks later.
