Gunshot kidnap victim played dead, identified suspect: Cops

A suspected killer is behind bars in Texas after an alleged would-be murder target told police he pretended to be dead in order to save his own life.

Eiber Gabriel Sira-Vargas, 29, was arrested in connection with the July killing of 19-year-old Alexis Jose Vegas, who was found by a stretch of road with multiple gunshot wounds. According to San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT, a passerby spotted Vegas’ body near a drainage ditch off a stretch of southbound U.S. Highway 281 at around 3:30 p.m. on July 1. Police found shell casings and zip ties near the victim’s body — but no clues as to who the killer was.

Investigators got a break in the case, however, when they learned about an armed robbery that left a man shot, injured, and hospitalized just hours before Vegas’ body was found. Local CBS affiliate KENS reported that the man, who has not been publicly identified, was initially “not forthcoming” with police, according to the arrest affidavit.

But he later revealed that he was with Vegas when he was killed. He and the victim had been kidnapped by three armed suspects and forced into a vehicle, KENS reported.

“While in the suspect’s vehicle, Witness 1 indicated that the suspect in the front passenger seat aimed a firearm at him throughout the ordeal,” the affidavit says, according to the report. “He was able to describe the location where the suspect vehicle stopped, which matched the scene of the crime.”

The kidnappers eventually stopped the car and told Vegas and the man to get out of the car. At that point, the man told police, the suspects opened fire, striking both of them with bullets.

The man said that he pretended to be dead until the suspects left, KENS reported.

He was later able to identify Sira-Vargas from a photo lineup.

According to court records, Sira-Vargas is charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon and capital murder by terroristic threat or other felony. He has a pre-indictment hearing scheduled for Jan. 29, 2025.

Man wore camo with his name on it to kidnap girlfriend: Cops

Police in South Carolina tracked down a man who wore a ski mask and camouflage vest with his name on it to kidnap his on-again off-again girlfriend, an arrest affidavit says.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic-related call around 5 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 15000 block of County Line Road in Andrews. While en route the caller said the victim had been taken against her will by 42-year-old Jonathon Perry. The caller said Perry and the victim were last seen at a nearby gas station but deputies couldn’t find them.

Deputies then searched a vehicle in the woods behind the gas station that matched the description of the suspect vehicle but did not find anything. Searches of abandoned buildings in the area also turned up negative.

Detectives interviewed the caller who said earlier in the night, around 2 a.m., Perry showed up at the home with a gun and demanded to know where the victim was. Perry allegedly hit the side of the home with an object, causing a window to shatter. He then crashed into the home with his car several times, the affidavit said. He returned around 5 a.m. and grabbed the victim, who was outside, and allegedly fled the scene with her. A witness identified Perry as the kidnapper.

A short while later, deputies located the suspect’s Grand Vitara not far from the victim’s home. The car was found stuck in the mud. Deputies found Perry and the victim nearby in a cemetery. They also found a gun with no magazine in the area. Neither Perry nor the victim were injured.

The victim told deputies she was in the front yard when Perry allegedly came up to her and grabbed her by the hair. He dragged her about for about 20 feet before she relented and walked with him to the cemetery where deputies found them, the affidavit said.

In an interview with detectives, Perry said he drove four hours from his home in Spartanburg to the victim’s home to speak with her. He told deputies he wanted to talk with the victim and convince her to sell her cellphone so he could get bail money for a separate case involving the two, the affidavit said. He said he walked up to her door where he was met by a man whom he did not know. The man told Perry to leave. Perry then started banging on the front door and side of the house but denied causing damage or striking the home with his car.

Perry also claimed that the victim went with him to the cemetery on her own accord.

Deputies arrested Perry on charges of kidnapping, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and malicious injury to personal property. They took him to the Georgetown Jail, where he’s being held on a $67,100 bond.

Man tried to kidnap 4-year-old boy at Walmart, deputies say

A man is accused of trying to abduct a young boy in the middle off a Walmart.

Pablo Pintueles Hernandez is charged with false imprisonment of a child 13 years old and under, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced.

Surveillance footage shows a man walk up to a small child. He began to pull the boy away until a woman leapt forward and grabbed the child back, pulling him behind a nearby shopping cart. Deputies claim Pintueles Hernandez is that man.

Authorities said they responded to a Walmart on Friday in the community of Lehigh Acres. It was regarding an attempted kidnapping, they said.

They said they learned that a man, later identified as Pintueles Hernandez, tried to abduct a 4-year-old boy from the child’s family by grabbing and walking away with him.

“Deputies immediately reviewed the surveillance footage and confirmed an unknown man walked up to the child shopping with his family, grabbed his wrist, and forced him to go in his direction before a family member intervened and pulled the child back,” deputies said. “Deputies tirelessly worked alongside our Real Time Intelligence Center Analysts to identify the suspect. Together, analysts and deputies utilized advanced technology to quickly identify and locate Pintueles Hernandez. Within an hour of the incident, deputies responded to the residence of Pintueles Hernandez where his identity was confirmed. Due to the nature of the crime, our Major Crimes Unit detectives responded to the home and began investigating.”

Detectives claim they confirmed that Pintueles Hernandez did in fact grab the child’s wrist, pulled him, and said, “let’s go.” The defendant is accused of restraining the boy’s movement and directing him to walk with him.

“What this criminal did is incredibly disturbing,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “I never want anyone in Lee County to feel unsafe, especially going on a simple shopping trip. My team will stop at NOTHING to ensure criminals like this face the consequences of their actions.”
