Inset: Michael Dietz. Background: Vandalized home in Westlake, Ohio (Westlake police).

Michael Dietz was not shy about his alleged actions when Ohio cops asked him about the vandalism at the home of a woman with whom he was involved in a car crash over a year ago.

“I f—ing spray painted a—hole on her house,” Dietz told Westlake cops, according to body camera video viewed by Law&Crime.

“Why?” asked the cop.

“Because she’s an a—hole,” he retorted.

More from Law&Crime: ‘Wrong damn car’: Ticked-off teen goes to town spray painting ex-boyfriend’s Infiniti only to realize it wasn’t his, cops say

While in the patrol car on the way to jail, Dietz went further.

“That b— is lucky I didn’t go over with a .357 and start shooting the place up,” he proclaimed.

Now Dietz, 64, is facing charges of vandalism and aggravated menacing.

Officers in Westlake, a suburb of Cleveland, responded to the victim’s home on Thursday morning after she saw the damage to her home and vehicle. Ring camera footage showed a man arrive shortly before 5 a.m. and try to pour sugar down a SUV parked in her driveway, a criminal complaint said. He proceed to spray paint the word “a—hole” several times, though it was misspelled, police said.

While tagging the home, Dietz apparently saw the camera and spray painted over it, a video showed. Not even the University of Alabama flag in the front yard was spared.

When asked who may want to vandalize the property, the woman and her husband suggested Dietz. She and the suspect had been involved in a car accident in August 2023.

After Dietz allegedly admitted to being the perpetrator, he told cops he was “not happy” with how the crash was handled and he intended to sue the victim. He said he was still suffering from back pain.

Officers noticed a black backpack the suspect used at the scene as they were interviewing Dietz at his house.

“Upon inspection, the bag contained clear plastic gloves, a reusable Giant Eagle grocery bag, sugar residue, and a blue funnel. These items are consistent with the tools and evidence left at the scene,” cops wrote.

Police arrested Dietz without further incident. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer or when he is next scheduled to appear in court. The case will be sent to a grand jury where he may face additional charges.

Westlake cops were incredulous that a man of Dietz’s age would allegedly commit such an act.

“You would expect maybe a kid or a young young adult would do something like this. Not thinking things through fully. But this was a 64-year-old man who should definitely know better,” Capt. Gerry Vogel told local CBS affiliate WOIO.

A former funeral home owner in Mississippi has been accused of using a storage unit to illegally store bodies — even going so far as to describe it as his “casket warehouse” on TikTok — after he lost his business license, cops say.

“The discovery of human remains in a storage unit in our city is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns that demand a thorough investigation,” Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons said in a statement last week after the arrest of Albert “Al” Creath, 31, was announced by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Creath, a former owner of the Creath Memorial Services funeral home in Greenville, was arrested and charged with two counts of improper desecration of corpses after authorities found three bodies inside of a storage unit belonging to him at a facility in the 2000 block of Reed Road near Beauchamp, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Billy Barber told The Delta News that he believed Creath was trying to continue hosting funerals and burials, which he advertised for on social media. He said the bodies were discovered during a suspected burglary.

More from Law&Crime: Teen and his buddy fired nearly 100 bullets into apartment of romantic rival, but killed the wrong man: Cops

“This is an isolated incident from somebody just not doing what they were initially assigned to do with these corpses,” Barber said.

Videos posted on a TikTok account purportedly belonging to Creath, who goes by “FuneralHomeCEO” online, show him stowing away caskets and other funeral items inside of a storage unit.

“My 2nd home,” he says in a caption for a video from September 2024.

“Casket warehouse,” Creath adds.

Authorities say they are probing the former funeral home owner and his actions since losing the business license to see if they warrant any other charges.

“As more details emerge, we will continue to keep the public informed,” Simmons said. “Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law. We will not tolerate any actions that violate those principles. I understand an arrest has been made but I also urge others with information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation.”

“The defendant attacked him without warning,” Brantner’s criminal complaint alleges, according to local Fox affiliate WITI. “(Brantner) had woken up to text messages and screenshots between the defendant and his mother, and this caused an argument.”

Brantner, a mom from Waukesha County, was charged Friday with a count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety using a dangerous weapon in a domestic abuse situation for the Jan. 29 incident, according to online court records. She posted bond and is now required to stay at least 1 mile away from her boyfriend.

According to the local newspaper The Waukesha Freeman and WITI, Brantner told police she was talking with her boyfriend and his mom about “using their house as a wedding venue” before the stabbing occurred.

“(The victim) had woken up to text messages and screenshots between the defendant and his mother, and this caused an argument,” the complaint says.

It’s unclear what was said in the text messages, only that they made Brantner feel “uncomfortable” and pertained to using their home as a wedding venue, according to police. Brantner, who has a daughter, allegedly told her boyfriend she didn’t want him around the child anymore.

Authorities say Brantner came home early from work last Wednesday and attacked her boyfriend immediately and “without warning.”

The two of them allegedly fought back and forth after Brantner brandished the kitchen knife and attacked him with it.

Police say she swung the weapon at him multiple times and sliced him open on his left bicep, right and left sides of his chest, and the left side of his neck.

More from Law&Crime: ‘I’m guessing she found out’: Woman upset about boyfriend’s ‘multiple relationships’ plows into him with Range Rover after giving his car a condiment bath, cops say

Brantner and her boyfriend each admitted to assaulting each other after the incident.

Investigators reported seeing red marks and a cut on Brantner’s nose afterward. She is accused of chasing her boyfriend around their home with the knife as he was attempting to pack up his things to leave. Brantner described what went down as a “heated, physical altercation” during her interviews with police. She told cops her boyfriend threatened her that day — saying, “she was not going to win and laughed that she was going to get her daughter taken away,” per the complaint.

Brantner faces up to 30 years behind bars if convicted. She’s due back in court on Feb. 13.

A federal judge has been dropped from a December lawsuit alleging that “significant underage drinking” happened during a 2023 party at his home, leading to a fight that significantly injured a partygoer.

Plaintiff Alex Wilson sought to drop as defendants U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi of the Central District of California and his wife in a Dec. 30 request filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Law360 reports. The request was granted the same day.

Wilson had alleged that he was injured during the fight outside the judge’s home when he was struck from behind, and he hit his head and body on the curb. The alleged assailant, who was a minor at the time, remains a defendant in the suit, along with his parents, according to Law360.

Wilson’s lawyer sought to drop Scarsi and his wife from the suit without prejudice, meaning that they could be added as defendants in the future. They were accused of negligence and premises liability.

The Scarsis were dismissed from the suit after they said the complaint had included personal identifying information that put them at risk. The suit has since been sealed, according to Law360.

Judge John J. Kralik of Burbank, California, was assigned to preside in the case in December, according to the court docket.

Scarsi is an appointee of President-elect Donald Trump during his first term in office. Scarsi oversaw a criminal tax case against Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, before the elder Biden issued a pardon to his son.

A Florida man is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death with a kitchen knife while the victim’s daughter was home and on the phone with 911.

Makinson Devalcin, 45, faces charges in the death of Enese Pierre, court documents said.

She was killed on Sunday. An affidavit outlines the allegations.

Deputies responded to a town house in Davenport on a stabbing call. The victim’s daughter said her stepfather was armed with a rifle and said her mother — later identified as Pierre — had been stabbed and bleeding, court documents said.

Deputies found the suspect at the top of a staircase, lying face down at the entrance of a bedroom. He had a cut on his neck and was unconscious but still showing signs of life and was hospitalized, the affidavit said.

In the bedroom on the bed, deputies found Pierre dead from a stab wound to her neck, covered in blood. A bloody knife lay on the floor, authorities said.

A roommate told deputies she heard screaming and woke up, went to the master bedroom, and saw the victim bleeding, but when the roommate tried to go inside, the defendant pushed her away, and she went back downstairs, investigators said.

The victim’s daughter said her mom came home around 1:40 a.m. and told her goodnight. Later, she said she heard her mom yelling, “Help! He is trying to kill me,” the affidavit said.

She got up from bed and exited her room, walking toward her mom’s room. As she neared the master bedroom, she could hear her mom yelling for help, according to court documents.

As she got near the room, she could see her mom was injured and bleeding. Her mom told her to call 911, the documents said.

When she returned to her mom’s room, she said there was more blood on the bed around her mom, and her mom was no longer speaking, the affidavit said.

She said her stepfather got up from the bed, grabbed a knife and said, “no one messes with me,” according to the document.

The knife found in the bedroom appeared to belong in the kitchen, as the sheath for this knife was in a kitchen drawer, investigators added.

The affidavit does not say when or how the defendant was cut and wounded.

He was being held without bail.

The body of a man who disappeared from a Colorado sober living home last month — with cops finding large amounts of blood strewn throughout the residence, sparking a search for him and another man who lived there — was found in a “wooded area” on Friday, prompting cops to charge the housemate with murder after he was caught on the run with a woman in Mississippi.

Johnny Rankin Morris, 46, has not only been charged with Stephen Walker’s murder in El Paso County but also a killing in Park County as well, according to local police officials. He was caught by cops in Pearl River County, Mississippi, on Dec. 30 for an unrelated crime and is now awaiting extradition on charges of first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with physical evidence following the discovery of Walker’s remains.

Walker, 37, was reported missing by his family on Dec. 19, while Morris and an alleged acquaintance, Hailey Cole, also disappeared but were reported as “armed and dangerous” fugitives.

“From the onset of the missing person case on December 19, 2024, our investigative efforts have been ongoing and relentless, with cooperation and teamwork across numerous agencies,” the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a Jan. 3 press release. “During the investigation, information was developed which led investigators to a wooded location outside of El Paso County, where a deceased adult male was located. The body of the deceased individual was recovered and has since been positively identified as our missing person, 37-year-old Stephen Walker.”

On Dec. 19, deputies in El Paso County said they got a call that Thursday night to go to a home in the 1800 block of Pima Drive in the Cimarron Hills area. “While on scene, deputies observed large quantities of blood in multiple locations throughout the residence,” according to the sheriff’s office. Morris and Cole, 43, were reported as being “armed and dangerous.” Walker was said to be “missing under suspicious circumstances,” but only as a missing person.

“He doesn’t bother anybody,” Walker’s cousin, Leona Neely, told local CBS affiliate KKTV. “He really doesn’t. He’s a good person. I don’t see anybody wanting to hurt him.”

Walker’s family told KRDO that the home in the Dec. 19 incident was a sober-living home where he and Morris both lived. It’s unclear how Cole was connected to Morris.

Authorities in Park County got involved after being asked to perform a welfare check on a home at the 1500 block of Campfire Road. Timmy L. Huston, 65, was reportedly found dead inside, with Morris being charged with his and Walker’s murders after deputies found Walker’s car less than two miles away from Huston’s home while investigators were probing Hutson’s death.

Morris and Cole are both facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated motor vehicle theft, tampering with evidence of felony crime and conspiracy. Morris is being held without bond.

Alberto Luperon contributed to this report.

A Florida man and woman were arrested after cops allegedly found their five children alone in a home without food, electricity or a working toilet.

Sanel Canovic, 40, and Azra Nikocevic, 33, are each facing five counts of child neglect without bodily harm, court records show. Miami Beach Police Department spokesman Christopher Bess told Law&Crime the investigation began Tuesday afternoon when a passerby in the 700 block of 15th Street — a high-traffic area — saw a 6-year-old boy crossing the street by himself. The passerby called 911, and cops found the little boy, who took them to his nearby apartment.

What cops found was appalling — and landed the parents behind bars. Inside were four other children, all under 12, Bess said. There was no electricity, working toilet or food, according to Bess. The kids said they hadn’t eaten in over 12 hours and were hungry. Officers took the kids to the police station and fed them as they tried to track down the parents.

“They were nowhere to be found,” Bess said.

Miami NBC affiliate WTVJ obtained an arrest affidavit that further detailed the kids’ predicament. Officers noted that the toilet in the home was filled with feces. The kids allegedly told them that their parents had them take showers after using the bathroom since there was no toilet paper in the apartment. Cops recovered soiled rags in the bathroom. The kids wore soiled clothing and smelled of urine, per the affidavit.

They also said they were without electricity for about two months, the affidavit reportedly said. The oldest daughter explained how they usually ate breakfast and lunch at school, but since they were on Christmas break, they often had nothing to eat. Their mother reportedly left them $20 for food at McDonald’s before she went to work on Tuesday.

“The parents would frequently share a meal in the evening without providing food for the children,” the affidavit reportedly said. “They would often leave the children at home while they went out to dinner.”

Officers finally got ahold of the mother and told her to go to the police station. She explained they were behind on their bill, so the electricity shut off about six weeks ago. Nikocevic also confirmed that she gave her kids the $20 for food but had no way of knowing they actually ate anything because they could not contact her at work.

Canovic arrived at the police station but declined to speak with cops without a lawyer. Cops transported him to the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation facility, where he remains on a $7,500 bond. Nikocevic was released on her own recognizance. Their next court date is scheduled for Jan. 30.

A West Virginia father and convicted murderer is accused of fatally stabbing his fiancee and her mother in his home, then burning the property and taking his 15-month-old daughter to a friend’s house before he went on the run, prompting an Amber Alert that led to his arrest and the baby being found unharmed.

Joshua Russell Morrow, 42, faces murder charges in the deaths of his girlfriend, Britney Brown, 34, and her mother, Irma Brown, 57. He also faces a charge of first-degree arson, according to West Virginia State Police.

Police said the series of events leading to the bloodshed and fire began at 7:54 p.m. on Sunday when a neighbor’s surveillance video allegedly showed Morrow pulling up to his house on Spring Valley Drive in Wayne County and then leaving 28 minutes later.

The complaint said a glow of light coming from the home after he left was “indicative of the increasing intensity of the structure fire,” according to the complaint obtained by local ABC and Fox affiliate WCHS.

At 9:42 p.m., he allegedly dropped off his daughter at a friend’s house in Hamlin, about 40 miles northeast of where her mother and grandmother were killed.

Citing a complaint, local ABC and Fox affiliate WCHS reported witnesses told police Morrow had to come to the home and asked them to take care of his daughter because people were trying to “put him in jail.”

He also allegedly said they were “all gone” and went up in a “blaze,” the station reported the documents saying.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 10:40 p.m. and discovered the dead women in the rubble after the fire was put out.

Police, called in to investigate, found stab wounds and blood stains on the bodies and the deaths were deemed homicides, the complaint said.

Police quickly linked Morrow to the crime. Neighbors tipped off police that the baby and her father were missing. Police also learned through a neighbor’s surveillance video that Morrow was seen in a vehicle as he allegedly drove out of the driveway as the fire spread, local affiliate WSAZ reported, citing court documents.

An Amber Alert was issued to find the baby, and a warrant was put out for Morrow’s arrest in the double murder and arson.

The baby was found safe an hour later at the friend’s home.

Police caught up with Morrow before dawn on Friday in Huntington, about 20 miles north of the crime scene.

Morrow was 18 when he was indicted in 2001 in Kanawha County for murder, local NBC affiliate WSAZ reported, citing court documents. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison before getting out on parole in 2017.

It’s unclear whether Morrow, who did not have custody of his daughter, will face charges related to taking her, but authorities said the case is ongoing. Morrow is being held in the Western Regional Jail without bail. He’s set to appear in court on Monday.

A man from New Mexico who admitted to smoking meth and marijuana before he crashed through a home, killing a grandfather sitting in a recliner watching TV, will spend 10 years in prison.

Mark Castello, 63, learned his fate on Wednesday in the death of Brian Peterson, 74. Castello pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle.

“We will carry this pain for the rest of our lives. Our family will never be the same. There is no true healing from an event like this,” Peterson’s daughter, Tiffany Saiz, said at the court hearing, local CBS and Fox affiliate KRQE reported.

From the stand, Castello said, “I am aware of the tragic situation that I have put the Peterson family in and what they are about to go through. It was not my intention at all.”

The incident happened on Dec. 28, 2023, authorities said.

Castello drove a white Ford Expedition through a stop sign and crashed through the garage door of a home in Albuquerque, officials said.

The Expedition struck a parked car in the garage, pushing that car into the residence. The second vehicle struck Peterson.

“My dad was trapped in his recliner,” Saiz said. “The wheel of my parent’s car was in the center of his chest. He remained trapped for over 30 minutes as we stood outside, completely helpless.”

Albuquerque police and rescue personnel responded around 12:40 p.m. Peterson died at a hospital.

Castello was also hospitalized for minor injuries and later charged with DWI resulting in death, driving with a revoked license, open container, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of controlled substance.

He admitted to smoking meth and marijuana before driving, officials said, local NBC affiliate KOB reported. Authorities said they found several open alcohol containers in his vehicle.

Castello’s criminal history includes convictions for DWI, domestic violence, embezzlement, and forgery, the outlet reported.

Peterson’s wife, Jean, told local ABC affiliate KOAT that she was in another room when the crash happened as her husband sat in his favorite chair.

“I heard a horrendous crash, almost like I would have expected a bomb to sound,” she said. “And I thought, ‘What in the world?’ And then I looked over to the left and I saw my car sitting in the living room. I just saw the car sitting where I knew his chair was. I didn’t see him because I couldn’t see over.”

“I went and spoke to him, and he answered me,” she continued. “I heard his voice, but I couldn’t see him.”

She said she spent the night reliving what happened.

“All I could think about was Brian pinned under that car,” she said.

Brian Peterson’s GoFundMe page said he has 10 grandchildren.

His wife, the page said, “is the glue that holds the family together, but Brian was Jean’s rock and a source of support to the family.”

Reese Myers (Bell County Sheriff’s Department).

A Texas woman was recently arrested after she intentionally left her 16-month-old child alone to travel out-of-town to visit a man she met on a dating app, Lone Star State law enforcement say.

Reese Louise Myers, 25, stands accused of one count of abandoning or endangering a child, according to the Killeen Police Department.

The incident in question dates back to the middle of this past summer; the defendant was finally arrested near the small city of Barstow in the Inland Empire region of Southern California on a fugitive warrant earlier this month. She just made her way back to Texas this week.

Late in the morning of July 28, police were called to an apartment on West Hallmark Avenue in Killeen – a large city roughly 70 miles due north of Austin – to check on the welfare of a child, a spokesperson for the Killeen Police Department told Law&Crime.

“Officers were told that a child was hanging out near a broken window and an aggressive dog was trying to attack the child,” the department said in a statement. “Upon the officers arrival, they observed a child protruding from the window that was repaired with a plexiglass sheeting and cardboard. It was not shattered.”

Inside the apartment, the child was found alone, wearing a T-shirt “and nothing else,” police allege. The toddler also allegedly had feces on their skin and visible signs of diaper rash.

“Officers conducted a sweep of the apartment and it showed the child was alone, with the exception of two dogs,” the police department’s account of the search continued. “Officers contacted the mother of the child, who advised that she was currently in San Antonio and had been there since the day before.”

San Antonio is roughly 160 miles south-southwest Killeen.

The child was taken to a nearby hospital and then placed in the custody of state Child Protective Services.

When police called Myers, she allegedly said she had traveled to the Alamo City to visit a man she met on Hinge, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Waco-based Fox affiliate KWKT.

The mother allegedly went on to tell police that she left her child with a babysitter she met on Facebook. So, police followed up to see what the alleged babysitter had to say about the situation.

“Officers then made contact with the babysitter, who advised she had previously babysat for the suspect last year in December and hadn’t spoken to her since,” the police narrative continues. “She showed officers her Facebook messages and there were no messages after December 2023.”

Law enforcement also said the house itself was laid out and set up in such a way to suggest Myers intended to leave her son alone.

Precautions are said to have been obvious and included most doors closed off, a baby gate blocking the kitchen area, the deadbolt on the door locked, and every other window locked and shut – except the apparently makeshift-closed one the boy was seen hanging out of.

“Officers told the mother to return to Killeen,” the police department said.

That request was allegedly not obliged. Myers was arrested on Nov. 5 by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrest records in the Golden State say the defendant was taken into custody somewhere on the expansive Fort Irwin Army Base – which is roughly 1,365 miles away from Killeen.

Myers was released from custody in California on Tuesday and arrested by the Killeen Police Department that same day.
