Amy Slaton Halterman appears in court to plead guilty to drug charges on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 (WLBT).

“1000-lb Sisters” reality TV star Amy Slaton Halterman admitted to drug charges stemming from her arrest at a drive-through safari park in Tennessee, where deputies found her in a car with marijuana, mushrooms and her two kids after she called police to report a camel bit her.

As part of the plea deal, she and her co-defendant, Brian Scott Lovvorn, were sentenced on Thursday to two years probation, ordered to pay $1,000 and were barred from the Tennessee Safari Park. A felony marijuana charge was reduced to simple possession, and two child neglect charges were dismissed.

“This is the Season of Giving and we understand that Amy Halterman and Brian Lovvorn are the pride and joy of the State of Kentucky and they will now be back in Kentucky for the Holidays,” Crockett County District Attorney General Frederick Agee said in a statement to Memphis CBS affiliate WREG.

As Law&Crime reported, the incident unfolded at the park, where guests can drive through in their cars and view the animals, including camels, up close.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, heading its press release with “FROM FEEDING A CAMEL TO THE SLAMMER” and commenting on the “no ordinary Labor Day” nature of the case, said its investigation began with a report of a guest bitten by a camel and led to a car with “suspicious odors.”

Investigators said the mushrooms and marijuana were in the vehicle and that children were endangered at the time.

“Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” authorities said, appearing to identify the car as Slaton Halterman’s and Brian Lovvorn as a passenger.

Both were taken to the Crockett County Jail on two child endangerment counts and drug possession charges, the sheriff’s office said.

Slaton Halterman has appeared on five seasons of “1000-Lb. Sisters” along with her sister Tammy, a show on their lives and weight loss journeys.

Slaton Halterman, after losing nearly 200 pounds, became a mother of two sons, has said, “[b]eing a mom is what I’ve wanted to do since I was 5 years old and I’ve always wanted two kids.”

But in the aftermath of a divorce last year from her husband Michael, the father of her children, she said the state of her mental health was the “worst it’s ever been.”

Ex-wife hired hitman to murder celebrity detox doc: Cops

The ex-wife of a California doctor who reportedly helped celebrities and athletes overcome addiction allegedly hired the man who killed her ex-husband in an ambush-style murder for “financial gain.”

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Monday that his office is charging 53-year-old Ahang Mirshojae with murder in the death of her ex-husband, Dr. Hamid Mirshojae.

“She’s been charged with, effectively, hiring a hitman,” Hochman said at a press conference.

Ahang Mirshojae is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon. According to Hochman, the ex-wife hired Evan Hardman, 41, to sneak up behind the doctor as he left his Woodland Hills practice in August and shoot him in the back of the head before a getaway driver, Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, helped him flee the scene. Another defendant, 26-year-old Sarallah Jawed, also helped carry out the scheme by driving Hardman to Texas after the murder, prosecutors say.

“The horror and betrayal of this crime are beyond words,” Hochman said in a statement. “The depth of the deceit and violence involved in this case is chilling, and we will not rest until justice is served.”

Hardman is accused of intentionally killing the victim by “lying in wait.” Sweeting, who is charged with accessory after the fact, allegedly drove Hardman to and from the scene. Hardman and Sweeting waited until Dr. Mirshojae, 61, walked out of his office around 5:30 p.m. Aug. 23 and the alleged gunman carried out the murder as he was entering his car, prosecutors said.

Hochman also revealed that Ahang Mirshojae hired Hardman and Jawed to jump her ex-husband on May 3 and beat him with a blunt object, reportedly a baseball bat. Dr. Mirshojae and his ex-wife have had a decade-long legal battle over their divorce, Los Angeles NBC affiliate KNBC reported, citing legal documents. Prosecutors said she ordered the hit for “financial gain” but have not said what role the reported divorce battle may have played in the slaying. Hamid Mirshojae had since remarried.

Revelations of the doctor’s ex-wife allegedly orchestrating the murder have left his family stunned.

“Immediately I start thinking about my nephews and nieces. Their father was killed, and now their mother was the cause. I still can’t digest it. I don’t understand. Taking somebody’s life, it’s beyond me,” his younger brother Alireza Mirshojae told KNBC. “It’s like I can’t understand how could somebody feel so much anger and resentment, and I don’t understand how someone would feel to do something like this.”

As Law&Crime previously reported, officers arrested Hardman in the Houston area and Sweeting in the San Fernando Valley earlier this month.

According to his biography on his website, Dr. Mirshojae worked in addiction medicine for over a decade and provided emergency care for 20 years. It said he treated “celebrities, movie stars, athletes and many people of different walks of life.”

“He has helped thousands of patients achieve their goal of having a sober life,” the bio said.

Local CW affiliate KTLA reported the doctor hailed from Iran. Friends and former patients spoke highly of him.

“Everyone in the Woodland Hills area, even in LA, they know him because he was a really good doctor,” family friend Maryem Alaei told KTLA in the aftermath of the shooting. “Always laughing, always joking, always helping people.”

Said former patient Pamia Mazahrei: “I don’t know why bad things happen to people who are good in this world.”

3 arrested in connection with Liam Payne death: Cops

Argentine authorities have arrested three people in the death of singer Liam Payne, prosecutors announced. They did not name the suspects but said the charges relate to supplying the One Direction star the cocaine and abandoning him before his fatal fall from a third-story hotel in Buenos Aires.

The first suspect is a friend, who prosecutors say “accompanied the artist on a daily basis during his stay in the city” but abandoned him before the fall. Prosecutors also allege that person supplied cocaine to Payne. If convicted, the person faces between five and 15 years in prison.

The second person is a Casa Sur Palermo Hotel employee who gave Payne drugs on two separate occasions, while the third person is a “drug supplier,” according to prosecutors. They are both charged with two counts each of supplying narcotics.

An “exhaustive and meticulous” investigation followed the Oct. 16 tragedy that devastated his millions of fans. Authorities say they interviewed several dozen people, including hotel staff, family, medical professionals and experts, and reviewed some 800 hours of surveillance video. They also probed Payne’s phone, analyzing his calls, messages and social networks, prosecutors said. In addition, cops reviewed guest records and food/drink receipts. Cops conducted nine raids.

Medical examiners and experts also delved into how the fall occurred. According to toxicology reports, Payne had “trace amounts” of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants in his system at the time of death. Experts also examined whether the fall was accidental or intentional. They determined Payne was either unconscious or close to unconscious at the time of his fall as he did not do anything to try and brace himself as he hit the ground. His injuries were “compatible” with a fall from that height, authorities stated. They ruled out suicide or someone else pushing him from the balcony, according to the release.

Authorities produced a 180-page report and presented its findings to a judge last Friday. The judge issued arrest warrants on Thursday.

There were reports of Payne acting belligerent in the hotel lobby before his death. Photos of a drug-filled table inside his hotel room also circulated on social media.

Medical examiners released his body to his family earlier this week, and he was transported back to his native England.

Pierce Brosnan in hot water at Yellowstone

James Bond would have never been caught venturing into an off-limit area but the actor who played the fictional spy for years, Pierce Brosnan, wasn’t quite so slick, according to court records recently filed in Wyoming home of Yellowstone National Park.

In records obtained by Law&Crime from the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming, a citation was issued to Brosnan for “foot travel in a thermal area” at the park on Nov. 1.
