A Texas funeral home recently went viral for all the wrong reasons when an angry family member of a decedent filmed the conditions inside.

Richardson Mortuary in Houston, Texas became the target of a new investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office after a video posted to social media showing several apparently neglected bodies spread like wildfire. KTRK, a local ABC affiliate, reported that once the video was posted by a family member of one of the deceased, several other family members arrived at the scene, worried about their loved ones inside.

One woman reportedly recognized her own grandmother, whom she told KTRK was “supposed to be cremated already.”

But the situation became even more chaotic when the man filming the video was confronted by an employee of the mortuary – who allegedly stabbed the customer.

Local Fox affiliate KRIV spoke to the alleged victim, who told the station at the scene that he was taking himself to the hospital. Police told KRIV that he had only suffered a “superficial” wound to the stomach, and that the employee might have been acting in self-defense. An investigation into the stabbing was ongoing.

Neither the alleged victim nor the employee were named, but the alleged victim’s sister spoke to several outlets including KTRK about the conditions inside Richardson Mortuary. Tamara McGruder and her brother, who shot the viral video, had gone to the funeral home wanting to check on the status of their mother and uncle.

When they arrived, they witnessed several of the dead being stored wantonly around the building, which was apparently undergoing construction. None of the rooms, including where bodies were being kept, had functioning air conditioning. Some of the bodies were out in the open, some in caskets or plastic body bags.

McGruder told KTRK, “It’s bodies in caskets, boxes, plastic bags. Its no A/C, its gnats. It smells like rotten blood.” She said that when she found her mother’s casket, “she had gnats in her face.”

Murita Brown was one of the family members who recognized her grandmother’s burial outfit in the video. She told KTRK, “I saw a lady in purple in the same suit as my grandmother, so I said, ‘Wait a minute, that look like my grand momma.””

She added that her grandmother was supposed to have been cremated last month, saying, “This was March the 21st and she was supposed to be cremated already, and we been waiting on her ashes and nothing having been happening.”

Demtrious Riley-Sylvester told KRIV that the mortuary told her family that her brother’s remains had been cremated, but found that was not the truth. She said, “It’s like some trash or a dog. Just throw him away like he’s trash, and she had me believing. We were just waiting on them to bring the ashes.”

Harris County Precinct 7 Constable Smokie Phillips told KTRK that he knew the business owner personally and told the station that he was currently in the hospital after having a heart attack. Phillips confirmed to the station that the owner allowed the bodies to be brought to other funeral homes.

Richardson Mortuary has reportedly been the subject of 14 complaints over the last 10 years.

A former funeral home owner in Mississippi has been accused of using a storage unit to illegally store bodies — even going so far as to describe it as his “casket warehouse” on TikTok — after he lost his business license, cops say.

“The discovery of human remains in a storage unit in our city is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns that demand a thorough investigation,” Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons said in a statement last week after the arrest of Albert “Al” Creath, 31, was announced by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Creath, a former owner of the Creath Memorial Services funeral home in Greenville, was arrested and charged with two counts of improper desecration of corpses after authorities found three bodies inside of a storage unit belonging to him at a facility in the 2000 block of Reed Road near Beauchamp, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Billy Barber told The Delta News that he believed Creath was trying to continue hosting funerals and burials, which he advertised for on social media. He said the bodies were discovered during a suspected burglary.

More from Law&Crime: Teen and his buddy fired nearly 100 bullets into apartment of romantic rival, but killed the wrong man: Cops

“This is an isolated incident from somebody just not doing what they were initially assigned to do with these corpses,” Barber said.

Videos posted on a TikTok account purportedly belonging to Creath, who goes by “FuneralHomeCEO” online, show him stowing away caskets and other funeral items inside of a storage unit.

“My 2nd home,” he says in a caption for a video from September 2024.

“Casket warehouse,” Creath adds.

Authorities say they are probing the former funeral home owner and his actions since losing the business license to see if they warrant any other charges.

“As more details emerge, we will continue to keep the public informed,” Simmons said. “Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law. We will not tolerate any actions that violate those principles. I understand an arrest has been made but I also urge others with information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation.”

A man who helped his son hide the bodies of four murder victims in a Wisconsin cornfield after the younger man “snapped” has learned his fate.

Darren Osborne, 59, was sentenced Thursday to 16 years in prison, online court records show. He was found guilty in October of four counts of hiding a corpse involving the deaths of Jasmine Sturm, 30; her brother, Matthew Pettus, 26; her boyfriend, Loyace Foreman III, 35; and her friend, Nitosha Flug-Presley, 30.

His son, Antoine Suggs, 41, shot and killed the victims after a night of drinking in St. Paul, Minnesota, in September 2021. Citing surveillance footage and phone data, investigators indicate that Suggs killed the victims around Seventh Street in St. Paul between 3:30 a.m. and 3:48 a.m. on Sept. 12.

Video showed Flug-Presley slumped over in the front passenger seat, authorities said.

Suggs reached out to his father after the shooting for help with hiding the bodies. He “told his father that he snapped and shot a couple of people,” says a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime.

“Suggs told his father the shooting happened in the vehicle on Seventh Street,” said the Ramsey County criminal complaint. “Suggs’ father gave his son a ride to Minnesota from Wisconsin after they left the Mercedes-Benz in a cornfield. Suggs’ father denied knowing the bodies of the people his son shot were in the vehicle they abandoned. He dropped Suggs off in Minneapolis.”

Suggs surrendered to police in Arizona, where he had been living. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 103 years in prison in 2023.

Osborne had been sentenced to nearly five years in prison in 2022 for helping his son and will serve the Minnesota sentence and the Wisconsin sentence concurrently, The Associated Press reported.

Murder suspect Huangting Gong (Orange County District Attorney’s Office).

A 19-year-old man in California allegedly murdered an Orange County couple he owed $80,000 to — executing them separately in the desert with gunshots — before burning their bodies and Teslas to hide the evidence, prosecutors say.

Huangting Gong, of Glendale, is accused of driving around with the victims’ bodies in their Teslas as he killed them both in order last month, starting first with Kuanlun Wang, 37, before setting his deadly sights on Wang’s wife, Jing Li, also 37.

Wang had agreed to meet with Gong at an undisclosed location in the Southern California desert on Oct. 12, according to an Orange County District Attorney’s Office press release and his criminal complaint. Prosecutors believe the two men were discussing what Wang owed when Gong allegedly shot him in the head.

After “executing” Wang, Gong allegedly put his body in Wang’s Tesla that he drove out to the desert and took the vehicle back to Wang’s home in Brea, where he encountered Li.

“Gong is then accused of attacking Li with a hammer and hitting her while forcing her to give him her phone’s password,” according to the DA’s office. “Gong is accused of putting Li inside of her own Tesla, taking her to a desert area in San Bernardino where he shot her and then burned her body.”

Once this was done, Gong then allegedly returned to retrieve Wang’s body from his home and burned it in a desert area in Riverside County, according to prosecutors.

He capped off his murder errands with a trip to “different desert areas” to set the two Teslas on fire, prosecutors say, before later returning to the couple’s home on Oct. 14 to allegedly swipe nearly $250,000 worth of watches, shoes, handbags and clothing, according to the complaint.

“Depravity does not adequately describe the callousness involved to kill a human being and then drive around in the victim’s own car with his body inside in order to carry out the rest of his plan,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in a statement Tuesday. “No one deserves the fate of being executed and then set on fire in the middle of the desert in a desperate attempt by a killer to cover up his crimes. We are committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their loved ones.”

One of the things that helped lead investigators with the Brea Police Department to Gong was an alleged sighting of him on Wang’s home surveillance system on Oct. 14. Prosecutors say a “family member” was trying to get in contact with Wang and Li but couldn’t, so she checked the surveillance video and spotted Gong, who denied it was him.

“[T]hen her access to the video surveillance system was cut off,” according to the DA’s office.

Prosecutors say it was this same family member who told them of the $80,000 debt allegedly hanging over Gong’s head, claiming he was a “business associate” of Wang’s who owed him the money for undisclosed reasons.

“After not hearing from Wang, his family member contacted Gong on October 12, 2024, who told her Wang and Wang’s wife … never showed up for a trip to New York City to meet with another business associate who could give Wang the $80,000 Gong owed him,” the DA’s office says. “Wang’s family were not aware of any trip planned to New York.”

Gong was arrested on Nov. 5 while returning home from a trip to Seattle. He has been charged with a laundry list of felonies related to his alleged crimes, including two felony counts of murder, one felony count of kidnapping, two felony counts of arson, two felony counts of first-degree burglary, two felony special circumstances enhancements for committing a double murder, one felony special circumstances enhancement for committing a murder during the commission of kidnapping, and two felony enhancements for discharging a firearm that caused death.

Since the killings have been deemed “special circumstances murder cases,” prosecutors say Gong is eligible for both a maximum life sentence without the possibility of parole and the death penalty, which is only allowed for special circumstances cases in California.

“In special circumstances murder cases, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office convenes a special circumstances committee after the preliminary hearing is held to determine whether to pursue the death penalty,” according to the DA’s office. “This process includes a presentation of the case by the prosecutor as well as from the defense. The elected District Attorney makes the ultimate decision whether to pursue death after going through that process. If the decision is not to pursue death, then the maximum sentence is life without the possibility of parole.”

Court records show that Gong is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 2 in Santa Ana.

Inset left: Virginia McCullough. Inset right: ugh, inset on the left; Lois and John McCullough. Background: The McCullough family home (Essex Police).

A woman who murdered her parents and then feasted on their finances for several years after hiding them in “makeshift tombs” at their own house will spend the next several decades in prison.

On Friday, Virginia McCullough, 36, was sentenced to spend at least 36 years behind bars before she is eligible for parole, according to a press release issued by the Essex Police Department in east England.

By the time the killer was apprehended, however, her guilt was never in doubt. She readily admitted to the crime — and seemingly relished the latest of several unfortunate turns when finally caught.

“Cheer up, at least you’ve caught the bad guy,” the murderess told arresting officers in September 2023. “I know I don’t seem 100% evil.”

In June 2019, the since-condemned woman poisoned her father, John McCullough, 70, with a fatal cocktail of prescription medication, according to police. The pills, accumulated the months before, were crushed or cut up and then secreted into alcoholic beverages.

The day after her father died, Virginia McCullough decided it was time for her mother to go as well — in a far less surreptitious fashion. She beat Lois McCullough, 71, with a hammer, then stabbed her to death.

For the next four-plus years, the woman lived alongside her dead parents.

After the highly considered murder of her father, Virginia McCullough placed his body into a tomb “composed with masonry blocks stacked together,” according to Prosecutor Lisa Wilding, in comments reported by London-based cable news channel Sky News. On top of the tomb — constructed in her father’s former study — the killer placed “multiple blankets, and a number of pictures and paintings.”

The older woman’s body was wrapped in a sleeping bag and then placed inside a wardrobe in an upstairs room of the family home, according to the prosecutor.

“McCullough callously and viciously killed both of her parents before concealing their bodies in makeshift tombs within their home address,” Specialist Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Nicola Rice said. “She spent the next four years manipulating and lying to family members, medical staff, financial institutions, and the police, spending her parent’s money and accruing large debts in their name.”

In September 2023, the couple’s doctor finally raised concerns — prompting a law enforcement investigation that led to their daughter’s arrest. She pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in July.

In the years following the murders but before the arrests, the killer “told persistent lies” about her parents’ whereabouts, according to police. She repeatedly canceled family plans — telling doctors and relatives the pair were not well, on holiday, or other long trips.

Police said the two murders and their concomitant coverups involved “vast levels of deceit, betrayal and fraud” and were carried out “on a shocking and monumental scale.”

Finally, after John McCullough failed to pick up several medications and make several appointments, his doctor sounded the alarm.

A missing persons investigation ensued.

When contacted by police, Virginia McCullough initially said her parents would return the next month. Police decided not to wait — using their “powers” to enter the residence in the Pump Hill neighborhood of Chelmsford where the family lived and died.

“McCullough was the sole occupant and instantly confessed to officers that her parents’ bodies were in the house and that she had killed them,” police wrote in the press release. “Documents found at the property showed she had run up large debts on credit cards in her parents’ names. After their deaths, she continued to spend their pensions.”

During her sentencing, the judge said a life sentence was the only possible option for the admitted, convicted killer, according to a courtroom report by United Kingdom public broadcaster BBC.

“There is a single sentence that can be passed upon you in these circumstances,” Judge Christopher Morgan intoned.

Law enforcement savaged the killer and remarked upon the pain her actions had caused the victims’ families.

In a statement, Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby said:

McCullough lied about almost every aspect of her life, maintaining a charade to deceive everyone close to her and clearly taking advantage of her parents’ good will. She is an intelligent manipulator who chose to kill her parents callously, without a thought for them or those who continue to suffer as a result of their loss. The details of this case shock and horrify even the most experienced of murder detectives, let alone any right-thinking member of the public. It therefore follows that the wider family of John and Lois, understandably, could never have guessed or anticipated that McCullough would be capable of undertaking these murders before committing herself to this level of deceit. They have been left utterly devastated by the circumstances of this case and they continue to feel the loss of John and Lois each and every day.

The killer’s siblings also released a statement — fondly remembering their parents as individuals and as the loving couple they were.

“Our Dad was caring and hardworking and he had a passion for education and writing,” the statement reads. “He worked tirelessly in his career in university education, which spanned many years. “Dad enjoyed lots of hobbies, with particular favorites being golf and snooker. As we think of Dad, we remember the numerous jokes he used to tell us and the laughs he gave us. Our Mum was kind, caring and thoughtful. Mum delighted in her grandchildren. She had friends from around the world through her penfriend hobby, many of whom she had written to for several decades. Mum had a passion for history, and maintained a keen interest in the royal family. Mum and Dad loved their trips to the seaside together, where they enjoyed many walks and visited lots of different attractions. Their love for the seaside was so great, they were hoping to move to the coast in their retirement years.”

A probable cause arrest affidavit details how a mother and father from Indiana allegedly killed their two children and then burned their bodies in a firepit in the backyard after excavating them from their homemade graves.

Steven Valle, 31, and Samantha Sebella, 25, are facing charges of murder, neglect of a dependent causing death, abuse of a corpse and failure to report a dead body.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said deputies began investigating Sept. 20 after one of the couple’s friends contacted the agency about Valle confiding in him, “I killed my two kids,” the affidavit obtained by Law&Crime said. When the friend inquired further, Valle allegedly said they had “smothered their first born but had drown the second born and burnt their bodies in the firepit at their house.”

Cops referred to the dead children as “undocumented,” meaning they were born at home and never received any documentation like a birth certificate, social security number and the like.

Detectives found Valle and Sebella at a hotel in Newton County. They denied any knowledge, but cops took their phones as evidence. Meanwhile, a third undocumented child was removed from their custody.

On Sept. 30, the Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Jasper County Coroner’s Office, along with two cadaver dogs, descended on the property in Wheatfield where Valle and Sebella used to live. The couple had reportedly been evicted from the property earlier this year. The dogs alerted to three separate locations on the property where investigators uncovered bone fragments.

Cops took the fragments to a specialist in Indianapolis for testing to determine if they were from an infant or animal. The bones were determined to be human, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Data extraction on Oct. 1 of Sebella’s phone unveiled incriminating text messages between her and Valle. She allegedly texted him shortly after 11 a.m. Sept. 17: “GUESS WHAT BABY KILLER.” About an hour later, she texted him: “You killed my kids cause you are a f—-t you never loved me.” The next day Valle allegedly responded: “Yeah I know the fire will be known for what you did.”

Sebella also reportedly texted: “YOU KILLED OUR BABIES I HAVE THERE DNA IN BODY FOREVER” and “They will know everything you took me to the doctor in 2017 to prove that I was pregnant THEY WILL KNOW.”

Police also allegedly found a “Baby Center” app on her phone that documented the progress of her pregnancy and uploaded key dates to her Google Calendar.

On Thursday, detectives confronted Valle with this evidence. He admitted Sebella gave birth to a boy in 2018 while he was on his way home, the affidavit said. But when he arrived, he claimed he found Sebella passed out with the child between her legs not breathing. He said the boy weighed about 10 pounds and was 18 inches long.

“Steven said he cleaned him up to make him look ‘pretty,’ wrapped him in a baby blanket, face exposed, and placed him in a box,” the affidavit said. “Steven said after three days, he knew the child wouldn’t be coming back to life so he wrapped him completely in the blanket and buried him in the backyard near a shed.”

Valle reportedly told investigators that “some time” after the boy’s death, Sebella became pregnant again. This time she gave birth to a “premature” girl in the bathtub while he was at work. According to the affidavit, he claimed the girl was dead when he got home. He said he buried her next to the boy.

The children were buried for about three to five years before he dug them up and burned them in the firepit, cops wrote. He allegedly sifted through the ashes and saw some bone fragments.

“Steven stated that he kept some of the ashes to make a necklace as a memento,” the affidavit said.

Sebella and Valle remain in jail.
