A mixed martial artist in Florida is heading to prison for murdering his fiancee while he was “super high on Molly” — telling an acquaintance, “I killed her, bro” — after gunning the woman down at their apartment while arguing over the MMA fighter’s drug use.

“I killed her high,” Phillip Keller told the acquaintance during a recorded phone conversation, according to Brevard County prosecutors and the local CBS affiliate WKMG. “I did it. I don’t know how I did it, but I can’t live with myself knowing that,” Keller said. “I’m a piece of s—.”

Keller, who was 39 when the killing unfolded, was sentenced Monday to 50 years behind bars for the 2021 shooting death of Alicia Campitelli, who was a popular piercing artist on Merritt Island known as “Red.” Keller accepted a plea deal during his sentencing hearing to reduce his charge to second-degree murder after originally being charged with first-degree murder in 2021, WKMG reports.

According to reports, Keller was a professional MMA fighter with a 2-6 record when the shooting occurred. He competed multiple times for Titan FC between August 2019 to September 2020, MMA Junkie reports.

Keller and Campitelli were reportedly arguing over his drug use when he gunned her down “in cold blood” while high on the drug known as Molly, according to police, which is a stimulant and hallucinogen also referred to as ecstasy or MDMA.

“Deputies responded to an apartment on Schoolhouse Lane at approximately 11:15 a.m. Saturday after a call was received advising that the resident, 35-year-old Alicia Campitelli of Merritt Island appeared to be deceased,” the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “Upon arrival, deputies located Campitelli inside the residence where she was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

More from Law&Crime: ‘Act of evil’: Man stabs fiancee to death 1 day after he proposed to her in video posted on Facebook with the caption ‘I love you baby,’ police say

Keller was the one who called the police and reported Campitelli’s death, but he didn’t reveal that he was the one behind it until later.
“I need help immediately, it looks like she’s dead,” Keller told a 911 dispatcher, according to WKMG. “Oh my God. It looks like she’s been shot and been robbed, my house has been robbed.”

Keller was taken into custody after the shooting and questioned by detectives, who were able to get a confession out of him. The pro fighter admitted to getting into an argument on May 14, 2021, with Campitelli about his drug use before he went to get a gun from their bedroom and shot her with it. Prosecutors said Monday that Keller loaded three bullets into the pistol’s magazine and then hid the weapon before eventually using it to kill Keller.

During his confession, Keller said Campitelli tried to duck down and crawl away as he fired once and missed her. “Oh God no,” Campitelli screamed, according to Keller, as he opened fire two more times and struck her. Keller said he used the woman’s car and debit card to make ATM withdrawals after her death — totaling $1,481.50 — so he could purchase more drugs.

More from Law&Crime: Man stabbed fiancee, her mother, torched home, then ran off with 15-month-old daughter in case that sparked Amber Alert: Cops

“Our hearts are so broken every day,” Campitelli’s mother, Debra Moore, said at Monday’s sentencing, according to Florida Today. “We still hear her laugh at our family gatherings. It was not just the end of her life. It was the end of our family’s life.”

Under the terms of his plea deal, Keller will be eligible for parole after he serves at least 25 years of his sentence. Campitelli’s father, Phil Campitelli, blamed Keller’s addiction to drugs as one of the main reasons his daughter is dead today.

“Keller has no remorse,” Phil Campitelli said. “My daughter is dead because she tried to help Keller from himself.”

More than two years after a Rhode Island woman went missing, her remains were found and the man suspected of her murder was finally arrested.

Mark Perkins, 64, was taken into custody on Wednesday after his vehicle’s GPS data was connected to the location of 44-year-old Charlotte Lester’s skeletal remains, which were found on Nov. 17 and identified through dental records. According to the Warwick Police Department, Perkins had been on their radar from the beginning but they lacked the evidence needed to make an arrest.

Court documents obtained by Providence NBC affiliate WJAR detailed police evidence of Perkins’ activity in the days following Lester’s disappearance around May 16, 2022, when her landlord reported her missing. The documents reportedly described a witness from a convenience store who saw that Perkins allegedly had “blood on his hands and scratches and bite marks on his arm.”

Perkins allegedly told the witness that he and Lester, with whom he had a relationship, “had the blowout of the century” and described his house as “a blood bath.” He also told the witness, “I think I killed her,” the witness reported back to police.

Perkins was interviewed by police days later, on May 20. They reportedly noted that his hands were swollen but that he seemed to be “calm and unaffected” by Lester’s disappearance. He allegedly told the police that “she had stopped texting him and he did not know where she was,” CBS affiliate WPRI reported.

Warwick police then reportedly searched Perkins’ house and wrote in their report that they witnessed blood splatters on walls, the ceiling, door, and bedframe, and an apparently bloodstained shirt hanging on a clothesline in the basement over a bottle of bleach. Testing later reportedly showed the blood matched Perkins and likely Lester based on it matching the DNA profile of Lester’s mother.

The court documents also stated that Perkins followed Lester as she drove to another man’s house on May 16, 2022, the last day anyone saw her alive. Text messages from that night reportedly show Perkins writing Lester, asking her to return home from the other man’s house. On May 18, the day after he was allegedly seen bloodied and scratched up at the convenience store, Perkins was reportedly seen on video leaving his home in his truck with an object in the back and when he returned three hours later it was no longer there.

It was not until the discovery of Lester’s skull that investigators made the connection they needed. When police began looking at the GPS tracking data on Perkins’ truck, it allegedly showed he went to the area where the skull was found four times in four months — twice in July 2022 and twice in October 2022. In one of those trips, Lester’s remains were allegedly within 1,000 feet of the area where Perkins stopped his truck, according to GPS data.

Perkins was arrested in August 2022 for a completely unrelated case when he allegedly threatened a local radio personality with his lawn mower after being confronted about Lester’s disappearance.

Perkins was arraigned at Kent County District Court where he was formally charged with first-degree murder. He did not enter a plea and is being held without bail.

A software engineer who works for Google is facing a murder charge after he allegedly beat his wife to death with his bare hands.

Officers in Santa Clara, California, responded to a home around 11 a.m. Tuesday for a well-being check. When officers arrived they met with an acquaintance of 27-year-old Liren Chen and his wife who was concerned for their safety. Chen wasn’t answering his phone or the door. The acquaintance told officers he saw Chen inside the home, “motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly,” a press release said.

Cops entered the home and took Chen, who was splattered in blood, into custody. They found Chen’s wife directly behind where he was standing in a bedroom. She was suffering from severe blunt force trauma to her head and paramedics pronounced her dead on scene. Chen’s right hand was extremely swollen and purple and he had blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands. He also had scratches on his arm, authorities said.

“Domestic violence deaths have been falling in our county but that does not measure the depth and destructiveness of the violence,” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement, noting that 911 calls regarding domestic violence have risen. “Anyone who feels that they or someone else is being abused by their partners, please reach out your local law enforcement agency. You are not alone. We can help.”

Police did not divulge a motive.

Prosecutors did not identify Chen’s wife but the San Francisco Standard, citing property records, reported her name was Xuanyi Yu. She also worked at Google and before that worked at Amazon, a LinkedIn account says.

Chen’s LinkedIn account says he has worked at Google since 2020. Both Chen and Yu attended Tsinghua University in China and the University of California San Diego.

A judge will arraign Chen on the murder charge once he gets into the hospital.
