A former funeral home owner in Mississippi has been accused of using a storage unit to illegally store bodies — even going so far as to describe it as his “casket warehouse” on TikTok — after he lost his business license, cops say.

“The discovery of human remains in a storage unit in our city is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns that demand a thorough investigation,” Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons said in a statement last week after the arrest of Albert “Al” Creath, 31, was announced by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Creath, a former owner of the Creath Memorial Services funeral home in Greenville, was arrested and charged with two counts of improper desecration of corpses after authorities found three bodies inside of a storage unit belonging to him at a facility in the 2000 block of Reed Road near Beauchamp, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Billy Barber told The Delta News that he believed Creath was trying to continue hosting funerals and burials, which he advertised for on social media. He said the bodies were discovered during a suspected burglary.

More from Law&Crime: Teen and his buddy fired nearly 100 bullets into apartment of romantic rival, but killed the wrong man: Cops

“This is an isolated incident from somebody just not doing what they were initially assigned to do with these corpses,” Barber said.

Videos posted on a TikTok account purportedly belonging to Creath, who goes by “FuneralHomeCEO” online, show him stowing away caskets and other funeral items inside of a storage unit.

“My 2nd home,” he says in a caption for a video from September 2024.

“Casket warehouse,” Creath adds.

Authorities say they are probing the former funeral home owner and his actions since losing the business license to see if they warrant any other charges.

“As more details emerge, we will continue to keep the public informed,” Simmons said. “Greenville is a community that values dignity, respect, and the rule of law. We will not tolerate any actions that violate those principles. I understand an arrest has been made but I also urge others with information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation.”

Updated: A former Duane Morris partner was arrested on an outstanding Michigan warrant at his condo in Chicago’s South Loop on Friday, the same building where his wife’s body was found in a stairwell in October 2024.

Adam Beckerink, 46, was ordered extradited to Michigan at a court hearing Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The warrant was based on charges of domestic abuse and assaulting police officers arising from incidents at the home in Berrien County, Michigan, where Beckerink’s wife, 36-year-old Caitlin Tracey, lived before her death, WGN-TV reports.

Initial media reports said the warrant was issued after Beckerink did not show up for a pretrial hearing in the Michigan case in October 2024. He also missed his trial that was set to happen days later, the reports said.

But Chicago police said the warrant was for alleged violation of pretrial conditions in the Michigan case, without providing further information, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Beckerink has not been charged in Tracey’s death. But in the extradition hearing Monday, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Danny Hanichak referred to Beckerink as a suspect, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Beckerink’s lawyer, Jonathan Brayman, said Monday and at a court hearing Saturday the warrant was not valid, according to the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times.

Brayman said Monday that his client had attended all his hearings and had not violated any conditions of pretrial release, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Beckerink “is the absolute opposite of a fugitive from justice,” Brayman said on Monday, pointing out that Beckerink was arrested at home.

Beckerink was ousted from Duane Morris after the law firm became aware of domestic violence allegations against him made in court proceedings, including allegations made by his wife when she obtained an order of protection against Beckerink in 2023.

A Jan. 6 rioter from Texas who got hit with an arrest warrant for online solicitation of a minor after being pardoned by President Donald Trump is back behind bars after being busted Thursday following a surveillance operation, cops say.

Andrew Taake, 36, was taken into custody by the Harris County District Attorney’s Fugitive Apprehension squad with help from multiple law enforcement agencies after a warrant was issued for his arrest late last month, according to prosecutors. Taake was caught in Leon County, Texas, and must now face justice in Houston for a 2016 charge of online solicitation of a minor. He was on pretrial release when the 2021 Capitol attack unfolded, which landed him a six-year prison sentence for attacking police officers with a metal whip and dousing them in bear spray.

Taake pleaded guilty in December 2023 to one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon. Last month, Trump scrubbed away the charge with a “full, complete and unconditional” pardon of Taake and his roughly 1,500 fellow rioters. Prosecutors in Harris County took up the solicitation charge — now that his federal case is no longer active — as a result.

“Re-arresting individuals, like Taake, who were released with pending State warrants, will require significant resources,” District Attorney Sean Teare said in a statement before Taake’s arrest. “Know that we are already in the process of tracking Taake down, as he must answer for 2016 charge of soliciting a minor online.”

According to prosecutors, Taake was apprehended Thursday after a surveillance operation on Tuesday confirmed he was staying at a residence in Leon County.

“We would like to thank the coordinated efforts of our office’s Fugitive Apprehension Section, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Safety for their diligence in getting this suspected child predator back into custody,” Teare said in a statement.

Taake made headlines at the time of his Jan. 6 arrest after he was turned in by a woman he met on the dating app Bumble. He was sentenced to 74 months in prison last year — followed by 36 months of supervised release — in addition to paying $2,000 in restitution.

More from Law&Crime: ‘Galvanized and ready’: Family members of Jan. 6 rioters and their victims say they’re ‘terrified’ of what’s to come now that Trump pardons actually happened

According to the Houston Chronicle, Taake was allegedly soliciting a person in 2016 who he “believed to be younger than 17 years of age.” He was 27 at the time.

Authorities say Taake talked on social media with an undercover cop posing as a 15-year-old girl. He allegedly sent “multiple explicit messages” and asked to meet up with her — even admitting that he “could go to jail” if anyone found out what he was doing. Taake allegedly went to an address that the undercover provided and cops arrested him. If convicted, he faces a decade in prison.

An Arkansas lawyer who was arrested for carrying ballot petitions at a state bar meeting in June 2024 has reached an out-of-court settlement that calls for payment of $200,000 to her lawyers.

Lawyer Jennifer Standerfer of Bentonville, Arkansas, settled with the Arkansas Bar Association; the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas; its police department and a city commission that owns the convention center where Standerfer was arrested for solicitation, the Arkansas Times reports. The settlement followed a mediation.

A joint statement by the parties said they “regret the fact of Ms. Standerfer’s arrest,” and they acknowledge that the lawyer had a constitutional right to carry the petitions.

Standerfer had argued that the First Amendment protected her. She had carried the petitions into the Hot Springs Convention Center, at first in a small wagon with a sign and on a second day by clipboards. She didn’t seek signatures but made the petitions available to anyone who wanted to sign them, she told KARK.com and the Arkansas Advocate after the meeting.

One proposed ballot measure would broaden the reach of the state’s Freedom of Information Act and stiffen penalties for violations, according to the Arkansas Advocate. The other would amend the Arkansas Constitution to create a government obligation to share information.

Standerfer was a committee member of the group sponsoring the petition drive, Arkansas Citizens for Transparency. After Standerfer’s arrest, the group obtained materials about the arrest through the state’s Freedom of Information Act, KARK.com reported.

Video obtained by the group showed officers telling Standerfer that she was being asked to leave. When she refused, officers handcuffed the lawyer and removed her from the event. She was not formally charged.

A state bar representative had texted the convention center asking staff members to ask Standerfer to leave because of the petitions, documents indicated. The bar had said after Standerfer’s arrest, no one authorized to speak for the association had sought Standerfer’s removal.

Standerfer had explained why she backed greater transparency in an April 2024 opinion column for theNorthwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

“The FOIA is how we know what our government is doing,” she wrote. “It is how we hold politicians accountable, and we should do a whole lot more than question any politician who says that we should sacrifice our rights under the FOIA in the name of ‘efficiency.’”

Left to right: Dustin Adlai Yates and Brad Michael McKinney (Smith County Sheriff’s Office).

Two Texas men are behind bars after meticulously planning the kidnapping, rape, and murder of a woman, Lone Star State police say.

In the end, whatever plan might have existed was not seen to fruition.

Dustin Adlai Yates and Brad Michael McKinney stand accused of stalking and murder, according to Smith County Jail records.

The alleged plot was slowly uncovered by law enforcement after Yates was initially arrested on the stalking charge alone in December 2024, according to court documents obtained by Jacksonville, Texas-based NBC affiliate KETK, which serves the state’s eastern reaches.

The ordeal began in the fall of 2022, when the victim, referred to in court documents as Myra, ended her relationship with Yates and blocked his attempts to contact her through phone and email.

Undeterred, Yates allegedly went on to use various phone numbers — with several different area codes — to continue to contact the woman, authorities say. By 2023, the alleged harassment escalated to the point where Myra filed a family violence case with the Houston Police Department. A detective intervened, warning Yates to cease all communication with his ex-girlfriend. He allegedly did not listen.

Myra complained to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office about nine separate threads she received beginning Oct. 31, 2024. In one of those emails, Yates allegedly mentioned the woman’s former address.

Contact allegedly kept up.

During the early morning hours on Dec. 1, 2024, Yates allegedly messaged the woman using a phone again. In those messages, Yates allegedly said “her expiration date was soon” and that “she had a predictable schedule and daily driving routes,” according to court records cited by KETK.

Later that day, Myra received a photograph of a friend’s house where she had previously stayed, an affidavit alleges. That friend confirmed receiving the same picture from the same phone number.

Detectives would eventually be provided with a slew of chilling messages the alleged victim received.

“I’d be vigilant if I were you,” one message reads.

The affidavit offers a laundry list of that alleged outreach:

“You were a busy girl in 22”

“I wonder what your expiration date is”

“I think it’s soon”

“You have a very predictable schedule and daily driving routes”

In interviews with various members of law enforcement after being arrested late last year on the stalking charge, a broader, more disturbing picture was revealed, authorities allege.

During questioning, Yates allegedly admitted to conducting multiple background checks on Myra through different websites and uncovering her workplace in Tyler. He also allegedly confessed to using different texting applications to disguise his communications.

“I wanted Myra to be scared and looking over her shoulder,” the affidavit reportedly reads. “Dustin stated, without being asked or the topic being brought up, that he had no intention to kill Myra, and if he wanted to, he would have killed her months ago.”

A search warrant for Yates’ cellular phone allegedly turned up evidence of the second man implicated in the plot, authorities claim.

“[McKinney] agreed to help Yates stalk and gather information on [the woman] for Yates for a monetary return,” the affidavit reportedly reads. “Yates got a large information dump about the woman from a private investigator. Yates forwarded Myra’s vehicle and address information to McKinney so he could help him locate the woman.”

Yates allegedly offered McKinney $650 for “wisdom and guidance.” In response, he allegedly replied: “help in any way I can.”

In sum, detectives say the two men exchanged 741 text messages discussing a complex scheme to kidnap, rape and kill Myra.

The pair allegedly discussed McKinney’s experience as a sniper, debated which types of bullets would inflict the most pain, and deliberated about how the inciting moment of subterfuge could begin — including posing as a UPS employee or pizza delivery man.

McKinney was allegedly paid $1,300 for information he provided Yates. The co-defendant also stood to gain some $15,000 for a concomitant plan to film the violence, authorities say.

On Jan. 9, Smith County Sheriff’s deputies took McKinney on various warrants — related to the case and otherwise. During questioning, the second defendant allegedly admitted to accepting money from Yates but attempted to minimize his role, claiming he did not take Yates’ threats seriously and only gathered the information for financial gain.

Yates, for his part, allegedly did not intend to long survive what happened to his ex-girlfriend, according to law enforcement.

In one message, he allegedly told McKinney of a plan to take his own life. In response, McKinney allegedly replied: “take out some filthy people in our country and go down swinging buddy.”

A 29-year-old Kentucky man was arrested for allegedly deploying bear spray at Capitol police officers on Jan. 6.

Standing on the northwest stairwell of Capitol steps at 1:54 p.m., Andrew Kyle Grigsby was among the first rioters to engage with cops, feds say. He is facing charges of civil disorder, assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon and inflicting bodily injury, entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds using a dangerous weapon, and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a dangerous weapon.

More coverage from Law&Crime: ‘Obviously you shouldn’t be pardoned’: JD Vance breaks from Trump’s ‘had no choice’ claims about Jan. 6 rioters and says violent offenders should stay locked up and charged

He was arraigned on the charges in Washington, D.C., on Friday. According to the FBI’s statement of facts about Grigsby’s alleged conduct, surveillance cameras showed him on the steps with a group of other rioters. As the mob was trying to break through the police line, Grigsby was seen holding a black canister, later determined to be bear spray, in his right hand. Grigsby allegedly raised the canister and dispersed the spray at cops, causing them to temporarily retreat.

“One of those officers described himself being unable to breathe or see without unbearable, tortuous pain,” a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia reads.

More coverage: ‘I will refuse a pardon from felon Trump!’: Jan. 6 rioter says she doesn’t want record wiped clean after being ‘bullied by MAGA’ for showing remorse

Prosecutors say Grigsby then went down the stairs where he got ahold of a police riot shield. Witnesses who knew Grigsby identified him from photos in the months following the riot. Agents tried to interview Grigsby at his home in Eubank, some 60 miles south of Lexington. He wasn’t home but a family member confirmed he had been at the riot. The family member also reportedly said that Grigsby had deleted photos from their phone of him at the Capitol.

Agents got Grigsby on the phone and while he admitted being in Washington, D.C., on that day, he said he never entered the Capitol. He also claimed he was not deploying the bear spray at cops, but rather at rioters fighting said cops.

However surveillance footage clearly showed him spraying it at cops, the FBI said.

Grigsby was indicted in November 2023 and again in August but it was under seal until his arrest last week. He remains behind bars, according to the feds.
