A Texas man is behind bars after he viciously killed his mother and then walked into a fast food restaurant covered in blood earlier this week, police say.
Jonathan Armand Taylor, 30, stands accused of one count each of murder and resisting arrest, search or transportation, according to a police report obtained by Law&Crime.
The fatal stabbing that took the defendant’s mother’s life was apparently so brutal that the alleged killer suffered some injuries himself.
The incident occurred Wednesday night at a residence on Tarpey Avenue in Texas City — a medium-sized city in the Galveston metro area, roughly 40 miles southeast of Houston.
But that’s not where police found their suspect.
The initial 911 call came regarding a man at a Wendy’s located along Farm to Market Road 1764 — known as Palmer Highway in town.
The man in question, the 911 caller said, had “visible injuries” and was covered in blood, according to police. Officers were dispatched to the popular burger joint and found him still inside.
“Taylor told responding officers that he was robbed,” according to a press release issued by the Texas City Police Department. “Officers noticed there were multiple stab wounds to both his arms.”
Police say the defendant’s story eventually shifted.
At one point, Taylor said “he attacked his mother at his residence,” according to the press release. Officers then went to the Tarpey Avenue house to conduct a welfare check. There, officers found the defendant’s mother, Regina Costa McIntyre, 68, “lying on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds,” according to the press release.
Emergency medical crews arrived to treat McIntyre, who was then taken via helicopter to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at around 10:15 p.m. that night, according to law enforcement.
Taylor was simultaneously treated for his injuries, formally charged, and then transported to the Galveston County Jail where he is currently being detained on $500,000 bond.
While details about what led to the brutal death of the defendant’s mother are currently scarce, and police have not offered an alleged motive for the slaying, the police report contains some details.
The highly sanitized court document says a gold necklace “in a Ziploc bag” was recovered from the residence — which allegedly belongs to the victim — and listed as evidence.
Another piece of evidence allegedly collected by investigators at the house was attributed to the defendant: a machete.
A spokesperson for the Texas City Police Department told Law&Crime that due to the “open and active” nature of the case, they could not provide a full accounting of the incident.
